The Car Thread

In the minority but I quite like Brewer to be honest. Sarf London’s finest. Owld ahht cherrand.

Decent show, I didn't realise they were still making it, as everytime I tune in they seem to be repeats, or in the states!

A few images for the car aficionados. Some of the restored tourist taxis look amazing but it’s the scruffy survivors in the side streets that have the real charm.

Most have seen the original V8’s replaced with ancient diesels chucking out huge amounts of black soot which is a great shame, but there’s something to be said about the make do and mend culture which appeals.

So different to the show ponies we tend to have. Great to see.

Epsom is very different to what I thought it would be :)

Not really ever been that excited about cars, but we picked up our new Kia Sportage yesterday and it is really nice!

Very roomy and comfortable. Lots of good assists and other extras.

Went in a Sportage Taxi a month or so back and thought is was brilliant. Some of those Kia’s are really cutting edge now.

It’s a great feeling getting a new car, well done, enjoy it.

Kia is a stellar brand these days. Getting purchased by Hyundai is good for quality control, I guess.

The EV6 is a great car.

Going to take them a while to persuade the UK market to spend around £55k on a Kia though.

It’s a look into the future. 50 years of post-Brexit supply chain breakdowns and the whole of the U.K. will look like this.

Kia do a car called the Stinger over here. Properly fast muscle car.

Slight tangent but hopefully relevant - bonafide petrol head struggling with the transition to electric but took the opportunity to have a whirl on an electric scooter

Jesus Christ, amazing. Mental performance. Limited to 47kmh but ballistic acceleration. I counted 2.something seconds to max but difficult to be precise. Unbelievable instant acceleration and no gears, revs or power band to even think about. That’s not to mention the smoothness, silence and zero emissions too.

Been putting off the purchase of an electric motor til the dust settles a bit but wow, not too sure what the petrolheads are still holding on to. The future is already here and it isn’t looking too bad at all.

It’s the roar of the engine that will actually be missed on the proper quick cars. A Ferrari whining with an electric power unit being hammered full beans just wouldn’t sound right.

I think you’re right. I read somewhere that the recognised supercar manufacturers have accepted the performance battle is already over so they intend to deliver on things like driver involvement.

The EV performance and range advancements are mightily impressive but I wonder if for petrolheads once the novelty has worn off they will leave you a bit cold.

Kia stinger, stopped importing them to the uk about a year ago, now ceased production, no demand for it, everyone wants SUVs.
ICE will still be allowed on cars in the EU after the all change to electric if they sell less than a 1000 a year according to Gordon Murray the car designer, his new supercar will still be built and sold with a V12 engine, so some/all Ferrari, Lamborghini and others may still be petrol and noisy

I think this is what will happen. No doubt performance on EVs will satisfy the most ardent petrol head. For me there's more of relationship with an ICE too (I know that sounds weird).
In the short term range anxiety and infrastructure will still be putting many off, although both are improving all the time.

The literal instant acceleration in my ipace is insane. Stick it in dynamic and it’s amazing to drive.
