The Advice Thread

They are really really cheap, just got to watch out for rust from what I can see.

Was going to be a new tent for nearly a grand, but can get one of these in decent nick for 4-5k.

The add-ons for them are insane as well.

HMRC, received my statement for the tax year ending April 2020, as I'd finished the previous November I'd overpaid by a few grand which I am entitled to get back, went online to organise and answered the questions and got told that I cannot get it until I get another job or the end of this tax year (seven months away). Does this sound correct as the over payment was last year ?

No it doesn't sound correct Paul. Are you sure that you put the dates in correctly?

If you had started in a new job in March 2020 you'd have got it all back through your tax code. As you didn't it should be available to for you to claim back now.

No its actually a statement from HMRC, the over payment was on my company car. It says "request online and you should get your refund within 5 working days, go to www.gov.uk/p800refund" which is what I did, you get asked have you had your final payment from your employer, employment status, and do you plan on working before next April (there wasn't a 'well hopefully' box), that is when I got the message not until the end of this tax year.

I'll give them a ring, if you don't hear from me till Tuesday you know where i am :)

Car recommendations please - finally got round to deciding that I need to renew my car ownership (well have had the current one for 12 years)

Looking at a small SUV of some kind - needs to be 5 door/4 adult seater with rear folding seats to give a decent load carrying area when needed.

Fair number of options on the market - anyone had any experiences which would help?

My wife liked her Nissan Juke. Had it for 4 years trouble free

A friend has got one of those - not for long enough to see if there are problems yet

Not 100% sure on the look - prefer the Kia Stonic for that though interior spec seems better on others

You can always get better interior spec Kia by buying a Hyundai.

Wife has a Kia Venga and it's a very good car, looks a bit of an oldie's car though ;)

I am one anyway so that's not an issue - the Stonic looks less of an old peoples car though.

Handn't thought about Hyundai

Not an suv but skoda superb estate, loads of kit, massive inside, free umbrella in the rear passenger door! If that's too big,Octavian estates are good as well

When I was working I had a test of Volvo XC60, absolutely gorgeous motor (it was a £60k car though), but the smaller version the XC40 gets a better write up in a lot of reviews !

Lady who I work with raves about the Skoda Kamiq (I think that's what it's called).

Yeah, I've got one of those. A saloon, but you can fit your house in the boot. Mk II CR170 Diesel with a DSG box and stage 1 remap. Bombproof build; everlasting engine; luxury interior; goes like a rocket; 57mpg on a run; what's not to like?

I'd wait for the new version, the Kamiq RZ.

Doesn't have a steering wheel though.

I will always recommend some sort of Skoda. They are generally exceptional value.
