The 2015/2016 Summer Improvement Thread

Since Sir Hayward passed Wolves have always been a club to stay in the black, I for one applaud this policy although it can make for some difficult decisions.

Is Stearman good? Yes. Is he worth to us what we paid him weekly? Almost assuredly not.

I like Stears a lot, but, like McDonald, he is far from irreplaceable.

What's he said?

I'm not arguing by the way. Just curious.

"Sometimes you have to get money coming in" or words to that effect.

It seems any club that isn't spending money wildly is going to get slagged off by its supporters. Such is the way of always wanting to improve, I suppose.

Not according to Kenny's quotes

Most clubs sell and buy players. There are some that can hoard players they don't really need but we aren't one of those. There is no evidence that we have any financial issues and Jackett has said the decision was for football reasons. If he can increase his transfer budget by selling a player he deems surplus to requirements he joins the realms of most other football managers.

For me, this quote confirms that Stears will be slumming it at Flum:

“We wish Richard all the best and thank him for some excellent years’ service for the club.'

Kenny has said if we lose Stears and RVLP, that he's happy with what we have......

I am hoping this is one of his bluffs, because we will be very exposed in defence, especially should we pick up any injuries to Hause, Batth, EEL or Iorfa.
If we lose Stears, we lose a lot of experience, yes, he is prone to the occasional brain fart but overall, he's committed to the club and puts his body on the line when other would shirk away.

If we lose VLP, it won't really bother me, bit of a shame, but Ojo and possibly Wallace seem more than capable. VLP has been given more than enough opportunities, I just feel he's not quite up to the standard required, he's got loads of pace and technique but his decision making, shooting and crossing all need much work.

Losing Rajiv would be frustrating as I love the guy, but as Dub rightly says he just can't seem to put all the pieces together. Wish him (and Stearman) all the best if they do leave.

Wallace and Ojo are both better options than van la parra, as ready as I am to give him time to improve. It's not a huge loss. We can still strengthen in that department mind you.

.

He also said he wants to add to it. Whether it's by Tuesday, loan or January.

Obviously you have to hope Tuesday wins that battle.

Wallace looked good when he came on today. I gave Rajiv miles of slack last year, but I'm not at all bothered he's going tbh.

If are aim is to give the likes of EEL and Hause more time at CB we can expect periods of inconsistent results until they mature, may mean some patience which we know a lot of football fans are not blessed with.

Ah, but he wasn't surplus to requirements this time last weekend was he? He'd started every league game and was Captain for all of them, seems like a drastic change of thinking. The cynic in me suggests a £2,000.000 change in thinking seems to be the reason for it.

Of course it is.

But what are the football reasons for selling Stearman? I must admit to being somewhat confused by it all.

He's no massive loss if you replace him, but we are probably not going to, that seems a lot to ask from a lightweight squad already.

For me,we are looking at being around tenth in the next window and when teams come looking at Afobe then it will be a lot harder to fob them off.

As it stands how are we going to finish as high as we did last season.

I think there have been ongoing negotiations with Stears for a while regarding a new contract. Seem to recall he hasn't been too happy with what was on offer for him.

If he's not too happy with the offer, then overall I feel £2m isn't a bad price for him. He had excellent spells last year, but even during those times there were folks saying he's still got 1 mistake a game in him.

I've more a feeling we'll look for a specialist left back, possibly on loan rather than permanent, rather than a centre back.

EEL now has a big season in front of him to make himself a 1st team player imo. Hause to step up too. Overall, both have a fair few league appearances under their belt.

On the striker, looks like we'll wait to see how bad Nouha's injury is. Which suggests loan, rather than permanent again. With Wallace, Ojo, Henry, possibly Graham we have width, then McDonald, Coady, Price, Edwards, Evans, Saville central.

Le Fondre up top, with Afobe in the number 10 role?

The only other thing I feel, is we're a young team now. Edwards & Ikeme will be the only over 25's, apart from Le Fondre?

Can we now accept that HITC is the most credible source on the internet when it comes to Wolves news?

How do you know - maybe there hadn't been a bid for him last weekend or maybe there is a player available now that previously wasn't. He was only captain in the absence of Danny Baath.

People seem to be jumping to all sorts of conclusions - it is like a conspiracy theorists convention. We have heard what Jackett has to say, everything else is rumour and conjecture. The Afobe quote was a huge hint that the club were going to sell - except for the forwards - and nobody in their right mind would consider Stearman irreplaceable.

Jackett has, in the past, said he likes to work with a first team squad of around 20 so it is fair to assume that if he wants to keep it around that number there would need to be departures. If the likes of Iorfa, Hause, Ebanks-Landell, Baath, Price, Afobe and Dicko were on the verge of being sold I would be concerned, but an average Championship defender who probably isn't in our long term plans....big deal.

Personally, I am happy to take Jackett's comments at face value and see how it pans out rather than engage in meaningless speculation that fuels the innate mistrust of the Morgan/Moxey hater brigade.

But yes, £2million for Stearman represents great business for us if that money is re-invested in the squad. As it stands, these two out and none in would be poor business, but the transfer market remains open.

We need to replace the guys if we are gonna seriously challenge for the prem..and maybe another body in considering dickos injury
