The 2015/2016 Summer Improvement Thread

He has got a lot to prove this season to be anywhere near what you guys are expecting of him then. So far, he has missed chances that a £15m striker should be taking. Maybe thats why he couldn't get near Arsenals first team?

Its not really what we are expecting though is it. Looking at what others have gone for (Wickham for £7m for starters) + do they club have to sell + his worth to the club + what others are prepared to pay.

In reality he is not worth £15m but football transfers don't work on reality do they. If, say, Norwich come back to us and say what would you accept...the club throw a figure of £20m at them..Norwich say ok, lets do this. Are the club then meant to say "only joiking, we paid around £2m for him 9 months ago, chuck in a few goals...so he is now worth £4m. Is that ok?

At a guess, I think he is worth about 12 million at the moment. It is an interesting point though, why didn't any Premier League clubs try to buy him from Arsenal?

I think Wolves have to take a big pat on the back here. They picked up on his potential and made a very good buy, at the right time.

As stated earlier. His record didn't scream sign me. The clubs are lazy, they probably hadn't seen him play

.

Because before MK Dons, he hadn't done a lot in his young career. At MK Dons he made people notice, which included Prem clubs (unless Afobe lied of course), and he chose us.

We must also consider that he was fortunate to get the goals when he joined. If he'd struggled and hadn't scored we wouldn't be having this discussion now.
We've had goalscorers with good goal scoring stats for whom it went pear shaped - Frankowski ?

Do you agree then, that the scouting system and the the people who make recruitment decisions at Wolves, did a very good job?

KJ knew about him and had kept tabs on him.

Indeed.our recruitment staff have been abysmal since we came back up to the championship. Maybe the main reason a fair amount of them have gone.

Don't really get all the interest, surely Iorfa and Batth would have more interest?

It's probably a bit of lazy journalism. They know some Prem clubs were looking at him before he joined us so it's a name they have on file + he is now a 1st teamer for us.

20 years old, big, strong, fast, comfortable bringing the ball out from the back... If you put the odd mistake he makes down to inexperience then he looks a very good prospect with a lot of potential. Not at all surprised there are clubs looking at him tbh.

I don't get the inexperienced tag labelled at players of that age. They act like these lads have been playing for the last few months and so don't really know what they are doing, instead of having been playing in a much more demanding competitive and demanding level than 95% of players will ever achieve.

Newcastle interested in Afobe apparently. Good for them. Still not for sale.
