The 2014/15 Promotion Push Run-In Thread

I think you probably have the top two right there Croxden (unless we can displace one of them of course!!). Derby have looked the class of the division (although a little wobble wouldn't go amiss) and Norwich are finishing like an absolute train. Boro look like they are in a small sticky patch that might cost them automatic, but we shall see.

I think we can beat Watford on Saturday in what I reckon will be an absolute crackerjack of a game, so it is all about seeing what we can pick up tomorrow. A tough task, yes, but Bournemouth really aren't Barcelona. We had the beating of them until Mike Jones decided to act the cunt.

The key game is Watford though because of other fixtures that day. Ipswich are playing Brentford, Bournemouth have a tough trip to Fulham on the Friday, and Middlesborough have to go to Forest. That could be moving day in the fixture list.

Looking forward to tomorrows game & have my ticket - Bournemouth will have some jitters as whilst they appear to be playing quite well still have not picked up that many points in the last 6 games.

Our away form is good at the moment & we have stopped conceding heavily. The attack we have now will cause them problems & a win not out of the question. Do that & we can go into the Watford game with confidence as dropping points on one of these games will not be a disaster, just don't want to come out of both with nothing which might well leave us with too much to do.

Sadly can't see anyone doing us a favour tonight. I suppose Brighton are our best hope given that Derby have injury issues up top.

Fulham v Watford is kinda a local derby. Plus I suspect Leeds will give Ipswich a test.

However, don't listen to me, a look at the prediction league standings tells you I can be ignored easily!

Watford have never considered Fulham a derby. Their only true derby is Luton (and they fucking hate each other).

Hopefully Leeds can take some points from Ipswich tonight which will keep things close, certainly looks like a straight fight between us, Brentford and Ipswich for 6th spot.

Brentford will have an April choke. Ipswich have over performed this year and are not in great form over the last 10 so they are catch-able. Norwich Bora and Derby have hit the pedal at the right time although Derby are having a blip that I hope lasts til 21st March! Honestly do not think we are good enough to get promoted but that doesnt stop me hoping to be in the mix. Its a case of in it to win it. I always want us to be competitive at the next level when we get there. But its not about other teams its about us. All we can do is beat what is put in front of us. Here are the games for me that we should target to win. Brighton, Millwall, Sheff Wed, Wigan, Leeds, Birmingham. These games are ones we should target as not to lose Derby Ipswich Watford Bora Forest. If we nick a win from one of those five and win the target win games we will be in the playoffs I believe. Its in our hands. Whether we are capable or strong enough in depth will remain to be seen.

Can someone find my prediction from pre season where I said we would have a record of 22 12 12 and finish with 78 points? I thought I posted it back in august but may be dreaming lol!

Looking at the remaining games Bournemouth Norwich and Brentford have run ins that involve the fewest games against other promotion chasing sides with 2. Watford have 3 games. Derby and Ipswich have 5 games each against sides in the current top and Bora have 6 including us. We have Bora Ipswich Derby and Watford. The upshot of this post is that the top 8 cannot avoid taking points off each other as there are so many games between them. Looking at that run in and current form Norwich should win the league although they and Middlesbrough do also have a game against a currently in form Forest. If we beat Ipswich at home we should finish above them given their run in. All then depends on Brentford whose run in is the easiest on paper but will be against teams who are fighting against relegation

Despite losing last night, I do not think that much has changed. Win on Saturday and we are back in the race. Whether we quite have enough to finish in the top six is open to debate, but I think we have a reasonable chance of making the play offs.

Saturday has probably become a must win rather than do not lose.

Thanks for that write up I was trying to look at all that myself this morning and got bogged down.

We have to win Saturday and beat Ipswich to stand any chance, probably need 20 points from our remaining games.
Defeat Saturday would be pretty terminal IMO, we'll need to win about four on the spin at some point.
I think the top two will be Norwich and Derby at this stage and I think Watford would be very strong in the play-offs.

Mick's pretty philosophical I think he would take a point away at Leeds tonight just to get some fresh momentum.

For what it's worth, Boro managed to score possibly the team goal of the season last night:

Like Wolves at their best this time last year, eh? ;)

I don't like saying this, but come on Leeds.
