The 2014/15 Promotion Push Run-In Thread

Wigan lead at Norwich!

For what it's worth, Boro managed to score possibly the team goal of the season last night:

Like Wolves at their best this time last year, eh? ;)

Does bear a striking resemblance to (I think) one of Jacobs' goals last season, with the interplay between Sako and Golbourne in the buildup. Can't remember who it was against.

Well two results tonight have concertinered (sp) the last play off place further

Feeling that it might well be a 7th place finish as we have do not have an easy list to the season end, but that will not be a bad base to launch an attack next season, with a chance of sneaking into the top 6 & anything goes if we get there

The Ipswich and Norwich results, last night, have given us a bit of a chance. Sure, anything can happen. Let's beat Watford and hope for a bit of luck. It's going to be tough but we cannot be written off, just yet.

Was looking at our results against the 7 teams above us whereas we wouldnt quite be rock bottom of thy 8 team mini league we could have done with a win or two more (3 from 9 with the rest all losses). Fine dividing line would have out is up amongst the top six now and things would look a lot more positive.

We didn't and things don't look as good but we aren't/weren't far off. Hope Parkin prediction of 7th is wrong where we only just miss out.

This team is nowhere near ready for the premiership as we cannot beat the teams above us in this league. Win the league next season and go up.

Which other Championship squads have far higher individual quality than Wolves?

But the team that finishes this season, would not be the same that starts next if we went up. Or shouldn't be.

I do not think there is any outstanding side this season. Last season Leicester won the league last season with 102 points and only 6 defeats. Burnley were second with 93 points and 5 defeats. I cannot see any team getting near to one hundred points, and with 10/11 games to go Middlesbrough have the fewest defeats with 7.

And what should be most concerning for whoever goes up, despite their domination of the Championship last season, both Leicester and Burnley look strong possibilities to go straight back down.

Yet Southampton have shown you can rip apart your team in the summer, lose your best players then with good selective signings be very competitive within the Premier league the next season.

This season is very odd in the Championship in that it isn't actually very close. Usually you have most teams down into mid-table managing to stay within four or five points of sixth until April, or even later, when the true "mini-league" at the top starts to pull away. Having such a clear gap between the teams near the top and the teams at mid-table already is unusual.

Derby Norwich Blackburn Watford Middlesbrough have some quality names on their books and by that players who have been or could do a job in the premiership and therefore that gives them nouse. Not always enough to challenge hence Blackburn but on paper their squads look to have more quality in depth than ours.
Norwich for example Ruddy Redmond Jerome, Howson Grabban Cuellar Hoolihan should all be capable or have been capaable of playing at higher level Derby have Bent Martin,Ince Butland Warnock Blackburn have Rhodes Gestede, Spearing Etuhu Dunn Baptiste Kilgallon, Bora have Kike Bamford Ayala Leadbitter Whitehead and Tomlin Watford have Deeney Anya Vydra Neil and Gomes. These are just random names from their squads but it does show their depth and experience. We have TK Stearman, Doyle Edwards and Ricketts. While I agree Sako Macdonald Dicko and Afobe are quality there are a number of names in the other squads as good if not better or more proven at the higher level. We are where we should be with the quality we have. If we make the play offs we have over achieved. Palace did that a few years ago and it hasnt hurt them

Blackburn have more quality than us?! Fuck knows where you've plucked that one from. Spearing, Baptiste, Etuhu and Kilgallon FFS! I wouldn't have them here on a free.

Derby, Watford, Middlesbrough and Norwich I would say do but certainly not Blackburn!!
