The 2014/15 Promotion Push Run-In Thread

Forest lead at Brentford. Des' lad.

Brentford bombarding the Forest goal but then concede again. 2-0!

94th minute equaliser for Brentford. Inevitable but hopefully no winner

Brentford score with literally the last kick of the game. Wankers.

Derby win.
Brentwood draw.
Ipswich lose.

We beat Leeds and we're in the play offs.

Ipswich lose 2-1. Brentford 2-2. Good for us but only if we do the business tonight.

95th! Ah well, I'd of taken a draw for Brentford and Ipswich at the start of play so it's a bonus

Just need to ensure we win our game and then its in our hands.

Now level with Norwich for best form out of the top eight over the last 10 games.

Are we not top of the form table period?

Probably, I haven't checked. No-one else is relevant though. If Reading go and win all the rest of their games for example it doesn't matter to us.

Crude, but extrapolating the current form for the top eight over the last five games...

Bournemouth: 1.8ppg, final total 86
Norwich: 2.3ppg, final total 87.5
Watford: 2ppg, final total 86
Boro: 1.5ppg, final total 82.5
Derby: 1.2ppg, final total 77
Wolves: 2.3ppg, final total 82.5
Brentford: 1.8ppg, final total 79
Ipswich: 1.1ppg, final total 73.5

Which gives a final table, 1st to 8th, of: Norwich, Bournemouth + Watford, Boro + Wolves, Brentford, Derby, Ipswich.

Some interesting stuff there, like Boro struggling more than I realised (in the sense that they've lost a fair few games recently, more than I'd noticed), and the fact that we really aren't going to get up to an automatic place in the time left. With only five games to go, it doesn't matter *that* much that we're in such good form relative to them, or Ipswich, who have really fallen back recently. There are still enough games left with top eight teams playing each other - and it also doesn't take much to turn a draw into a win and have what is a statistical "upset" - that we really can't afford to trust form.

A draw on Saturday against the Blouse will keep us in the top six.

Averages don't take the quality of the opposition in the last 5 games into account though, for instance Bournemouth have 5 games against teams with nothing to play for which gives them a big advantage, Boro and ourselves have 2 games against teams still going for promotion etc. I can see us getting another 10 points, but probably needing to win our last 3 to do it. My latest bull:
B'mouth 90
Watford 87
Boro 87
Norwich 85
Derby 84
Wolves 81
Ipswich 80
Brentford 78
