Techy Stuff Help!

My desk top PC...

It keeps losing internet. My broadband works fine on everything else but my PC keeps losing the signal. It still shows full signal connection on the bottom right but when I try to switch pages it crashes and says "no internet connection" with a blank page. Help...

Have you tried using an ethernet connection from your router to your PC?

It's in the other room and an odd shaped house so would need about 25' of cable

Assuming it's windows how you tried the 'fix internet connection' troubleshooter?

Do you ever shutdown/restart your PC? WiFi adaptors can get a bit fussy if they keep going into standy or hibernation.

For connecting via ethernet, take a look at Powerline adapters - it converts your mains into network so as long as you have a spare socket by your PC and one by your router you can get hooked up via cables instead of wireless.

Yes the computer gets switched off.

This what you mean?

I fitted my work unit with them and they're great.

As long as your sockets are all on the same ring.

All on the same ring downstairs... I've been an bought a pair of adapters and can already see the difference. Cheers for the help lads

I've used Powerlines for years to have my Sky Box, PC, TV up to a (semi) wired connection. It's much more reliable than wireless.

I recently bought an Android box to watch TV as its virtually impossible to get a satellite connected to our apartment due to us being on the top floor, and the TV being the entirely opposite end of the house to where the dish would be.

So I got an Android box loaded with Kodi, Mobdro, Redbox TV etc. But it's painfully sloooooooow. The apps take ages loading, and then we get the channel but it buffers so much, its unwatchable. Any ideas?

Our internet speed is 14mbps with 11 mbps upload speed.
Surely that is enough to stream live tv? Netflix and Youtube works fine on my tablet/Chromecast.

Two possibilities right off the bat:

1) Your WiFi isn't strong enough, try an ethernet connection

2) The box itself doesn't have enough RAM to perform properly, not much you can do about that other than buy a better one

I've just spent 100 bastard euro on this, as it's supposedly a top of the range box, so I wont be fucking happy if it turns out to be the 2nd issue

Fully loaded Android boxes are usually cheap ass chinese boxes (available via aliexpress for a tenner) loaded with crap and occasioanlly spyware.

Best return it and get an nvidia sheild or fire tv. If you want to do all the pirate stuff just google and do it yourself.

14Mb/s itself isn't much, the pirate schizzle is often peer to peer, so if your upload rate is crap that won't help either
