Swansea 2 Wolves 1 - FA Cup Replay Verdict Thread

I know plenty of Yeovil fans. They don't give a toss about the cup either. It's only an appealing prospect for those that turn up for the occasional big gun fixture.

As I said yesterday I would really like to see Wolves in a FA Cup Final. I know that the famous old trophy is not respected as it used to be, but in my opinion it is still the greatest cup competition going. And ask fans of Newport or Yeovil if the cup is not important.
The way football is now means Cups are generally a passing thought for teams. Top end of the Prem want the title or Champs League places. Bottom half need to stay up.
They only take it seriously if they find themselves in the semi finals.

Maybe if we go up and establish ourselves as a top 10 team you may see us progress beyond Round 5. Maybe.

But then you have to replace Douglas and Doherty. They made 9 changes, I full accept Mawson as their best player and Ayew as having a very good season, but unless people think they rested players at Newcastle to play us, it was a reserve team with a couple of notable exceptions, just like ours was. I'm making this sound like I care, which I don't really, but let's not pretend they took it more seriously selection wise than we did.

Only reason I brought it up was to point out the relative quality of that squad, to be honest. Saying "they played reserves" feels to me a bit like making our loss to them seem worse than it is.

Didn't mean to start up such a pointless argument. :shakehand:

Or you get incredibly lucky like Cardiff did and make the final with a run of Chasetown/Hereford/Wolves/Middlesbrough/Barnsley.

Well yes of course thy are, but my point yesterday and remains so is that in domestic football the FA Cup is a competition that I have not seen Wolves win, and I would like to see us do so before the good Lord calls me to him.

I think this is fair enough, honestly. Just at times it seems you take on a defeatist attitude about it that really boggles the mind; it comes off like "oh, we're losing, I always knew we were shit". It's weird, especially from you who used to be the most staunchly optimistic member of the board.

Not pointless mate, we are clearly in huge trouble ahead of a season that doesn’t start until August I’ve heard... if we can’t beat Swansea with our reserves - what hope do we have?

Not that they'd get into our team, but there are a few Swansea players that I think would do well in our current system. Honestly I wouldn't be horribly shocked if Jordan Ayew is one we get linked with over this coming summer (unless our targets immediately become Champions League preparation).

I don’t think Ayew is a terrible player but I think we will have our sights set a lot higher than him mate come the summer

Don't really disagree with that. Although if you'd told me three years ago that Jordan would have a better time in England than Andre I would have laughed until I was blue in the face. Strange game, is football.

Living here also know a lot of Yeovil fans who attend regularly - most see this as a day in the spotlight, but no real consequence for their season

Was also talking to someone today who does security part time there - they have pushed the attendance to the max that ground will take with temporary stands to fill in the corners, but not really increased stewarding by the same percentage. He wasn't looking forward to it with a majority of the crowd being people who never go near the place.

My original post should obviously have said appealing rather than appalling...

A day out in Yeovil is never something to look forward to in any case.

That surprises me, I was disappointed when they got relegated at the same time as us, I thought it would have been a good day out.

The football club isn't the problem - Yeovil as a town is though

Yeah, having lived down here for 30 years and worked in Yeovil for 10, everyone around about calls it Yeo-VILE. It is a rundown place, one of the chavviest towns in England.

The football team came up out of the conference on the crest of a wave, regularly getting gates over 5000. Now they struggle to attract half of that. Pay on the day, it is as expensive as going to Wolves, to watch utter dross.

Friend of mine is a S/T holder there - no idea how he puts up with it (think it cost more than one for me would have at Wolves)

Reminds me of when I went with my youngest to pick up a car engine he had bought on Ebay from someone on an estate behind Pen Mill station (well he needed another person to get it into his van & I knew roughly where it was). An eye-opener at thats not the worst part of the town
