Swansea 2 Wolves 1 - FA Cup Replay Verdict Thread

If you think there's a big gap in quality between the team they played yesterday and the one they played in the league over the weekend, more power to you, but I sure as heck don't see it.
No there isn't, but that's because they have a squad full of average players and that's why they are bottom of the league. They made 9 changes last night and will make another 7-9 for their next league game, whatever way you try and paint it it's a second 11 we played.

Mawson was impressive last night, would have him in the team when they go down.

Mawson was one of the two players they didn't change.

That Swansea team wasn't their reserves, it was probably half and half looking at it but in reality with their squad there's not much difference between the first team and squad players apart from the stand out players which are obviously Mawson and Ayew.

I spoke to a Swansea season ticket holder this morning, he said the team they put out last night certainly wasnt their reserves, he thought it was a very strong side for them. If we take that into account, discount our dreadful defending it wasn't that bad. MGW as pointed out has probably not been bullied like that before, he will learn from it and either play in another position or toughen up make no mistake he has the ability just got caught on the ball a few too many times.

Its great experience for all of them and thats why im gutted we are out of the cup, Mir was trying to play on the shoulder of the last defender but it just wasn't working he needs more games to adapt to how we play.

If ever anyone questioned how important Leo & Coady are (forget Jota for now we already know that) the question was answered last night.

For now we need another RWB in this window in case Doc gets crocked.

Yeah it was a strong team for them as they played their best two players (regardless of the others). If we played the same team but switched Neves and Jota In for Bright and MGW we would have won, and that would have turned our “reserves” into a strong team.

We also played a 17 year old, a 19 year old and a 20 year old With a handful of starts between them.

But then you have to replace Douglas and Doherty. They made 9 changes, I full accept Mawson as their best player and Ayew as having a very good season, but unless people think they rested players at Newcastle to play us, it was a reserve team with a couple of notable exceptions, just like ours was. I'm making this sound like I care, which I don't really, but let's not pretend they took it more seriously selection wise than we did.

I thought they put out a pretty strong team. I haven't followed their line ups that closely but would have classed the likes of Mawson, Fernandez, Naughton, Caroll, Ayew & Bony as being in and around the first team. Maybe Mesa & Fer too.

It looked like a stronger team than they put out in the first match against us.

I’m not saying they did. Just pointing out the facts. Doherty and Douglas are average players doing well in a good team. Neither is going to go and win you the game, excluding set pieces, and even then they aren’t as dangerous without the usual targets.

End of the day, their reserves were better than ours. But average players become better when playing with difference makers. We didn’t have any difference makers playing

Not having Coady and Bennett made a huge difference to us. We could have picked a team with a few more first teamers in like Swansea did but we didn't.

Ayew and Bony are better than any championship strikers so that should put it into perspective a little

Ignoring the cup run, we aren’t taking our chances at the moment, but we are keeping clean sheets, so it’s not particularly an issue as we are winning.

When teams attempt to score more than zero goals against us we tend to rip them apart, e.g. Brentford.

Ignoring the games against Cardiff City, Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers we are unbeaten in the league. Sorry, but you cannot just ignore games just because we lost them.

I make no apologies for repeating that we have missed a great chance to have a really good cup run.

To be fair, and blunt, I don't think anyone really gives a fuck. Promotion is our only priority, everything else is just froth.

Cups aren't nearly as exciting as they used to be.

I guess teams used to get more money from cup games than they did from league games

If you’d put Boly and Coady in for Batth and Hause we’d have probably won.

Oh fuck off, I’m ignoring cup games where we’ve played a second string team, not a fucking league game where we’ve played a full strength team you imbecile.

I’ve already asked to be removed from been a mod so I can put you on my ignore list. Hopefully someone will action it sooner rather than later.

As I said yesterday I would really like to see Wolves in a FA Cup Final. I know that the famous old trophy is not respected as it used to be, but in my opinion it is still the greatest cup competition going. And ask fans of Newport or Yeovil if the cup is not important.

Don't think I've ever met a fan of either, but if I supported a league 2 team then I guess I might be enthused by a cup. But I don't, I support a team hopefully heading for promotion to the premier league.
I'm not a huge football watcher, wolves aside, but I think the champions league and the world cup might just be a step up front the FA Cup.

Well yes of course thy are, but my point yesterday and remains so is that in domestic football the FA Cup is a competition that I have not seen Wolves win, and I would like to see us do so before the good Lord calls me to him.
