Summer 2022 Transfer Window

You can take being an ‘option’ any way you want.

Technically I’m an option, and I’d suggest more likely to get a call than AC
I would say the headline is maybe a tad mis-leading (that won't be Percy's doing)

The opening line of the story is

Wolves have launched an appeal over Costa's rejected work permit but are drawing up a list of alternatives if they are unsuccessful

Story then briefly mentions Carroll as an option we may consider before going into talking about Costa again. I'm going with the club has told Percy they will sign a forward even if Costa fails, they have looked at the list available and gone for the headline that will get the clicks and people talking.

(he will now be announced as our new signing at 9pm tonight)

Lucas Ocampos went to Ajax on loan with an option at 16m Euros - that seems a good deal from what I have seen of him previously, plus in a squad which has very similar profile wide players, he would have added a very different element. Around a goal every 4 games from out wide seems a reasonable output as well.

He's a weird one. He looked great during the season we were in Europe but he's pretty much fell off a cliff. Couldn't get in the Sevilla side last year.

I was asking a question.

My opinion on Carroll is that he is what he's been for years, a menace in the air but not really much else.

He's probably a better option for most games than playing Podence as a false 9 but that's not saying much.

Gotcha, my take - we need a striker but Andy Carroll isn't going to be any use.

I'd rather play Guedes or Hwang.

It's all moot as I see no way that Costa doesn't see his appeal granted.

cough Brereton Diaz

We all know my thoughts on Hwang as a footballer. I'd play him over Carroll as a number 9, 100 times out of 100

But it's quite obvious that the manager wants a lump in there. Presumably because he can't get us creating chances through patterns of play so is going to just get us spamming crosses in. Hwang isn't really much use then.

Well the manager can grow up and deal with the squad he's got, get the wide forwards closer to Hwang and maybe try and get us playing a little but of football

Not in the games I viewed or in the opinion of any of the lads I know who go up there regularly. Every one of them wanted him back this year.
Strange he got universally shit reviews on their forums then.

I love how a negative link gets everyone proper fuming.

Read the story linking us to Carroll and it is very much "well he is on the freebie list and a forward, he MUST be an option" piece rather than a "Broken lump of a forward incoming, HERE WE GO"

I'll give more credence to the opinion of people I know have a good understanding of football than random people on a forum I don't even interact with along with my own eyes.

Anyone reading this forum would think Hwang is Ali Dia.

Not going to happen is it really, we know he's incapable of dealing with the squad he has whilst playing decent football as there's a full season of evidence.

It's just a formality surely. Easy to argue the 2% of missed time was down to injuries and approved.

Tim Vickery will be on talkSPORT before 1600 to talk about this so probably worth a listen

Yeah, but where's the fun in that when we can have a collective meltdown all morning?
bonus transfer meltdown as well. Who expected this between windows, got to make the most of it

I've actually enjoyed it myself. Seeing people on twitter who have fervently argued that Bruno needs a striker for us to score goals doing a complete 180 degree to we have good enough options because of the threat of big Andy Carroll.
