Summer 2022 Transfer Window

Raul's not looked a particular goal threat since he came back from injury. It might actually work in our favour. It may encourage some of the others like Neto, Podence, Traore, Hwang to gamble and get into the box and onto the end of things (he hopes).
No problems only opportunities :)
What are they gambling?

Such a pointless, stupid phrase for the football illiterate*

*This isn't aimed at any poster in particular, just a pet peeve of mine.

I don't remember Costa ever being an aerial threat more than a physical pest, so checked. Yeah a real heading machine....

That proves it then. 5 Goals scored with his head in a team that primarily played football on the ground means he's absolutely shit in the air. What an awful example of using stats.

I didn't say he was shit in the air, I was showing that he's not purely an aerial threat. In fact he's less of an aerial threat than most strikers by the looks of it.

I guess the gamble is taking a chance the ball will be played into a certain area. Think of Raul against Bournemouth where he stayed towards the back post rather than take a chance the ball would be played to the near post. The gamble is that if the ball isn’t played there the player is then out of that phase of the game. The better the players understand each other the less it’s a gamble as they should have a better idea of where the ball will be played.

Not really, what you're talking about is tactical. Raul goes to the back part for a reason (the manager).

The same as the opposite side man will run level with the penalty spot for the cut back.

It's deliberate.

Somebody like Haaland is instinct driven and I think Pep let's him have free reign to do what he likes. He didn't with Jesus or Aguero though.

Which goes back to my point of 'gambling'. Such a fucking awful phrase for football illiterates who know nothing about the game.

I've actually enjoyed it myself. Seeing people on twitter who have fervently argued that Bruno needs a striker for us to score goals doing a complete 180 degree to we have good enough options because of the threat of big Andy Carroll.
The first and last time ‘the threat of big Andy Carroll’ has been used in a sentence in 2022

The all 3 have being a threat in the air doesn’t means he wants a ‘lump’ to just ping the ball up to. Such a lazy assumption.

I’d imagine it means we will get more balls into the box, as Lage himself has said he encouraged players to not cross last year due to our options, and the ability to go from front to back more direct occasionally.

With our starting midfield 3, we will not be turning into a team who lump it.

I never said he was, just that was what he had in common with the other 2 players.

I made the original post, never mentioned pinging it upto them. I said we'd spam crosses in because we can't create through patterns of play.
