Summer 2022 Transfer Window

@Jinky - Are you on Flight tracker duty again?
@Rest of us useless gits - Who is in up a tree to get a late 90's Nokia phone quality photo?

I saw a tweet from a Chelsea fan earlier saying that Costa is nailed on to score an injury time winner against them. Loads of the comments were from other Chelsea fans basically saying ‘fuck it, I’d celebrate anyway’. Made me chuckle.

I can’t believe that I’m quite excited about the prospect of signing a 33 year old who hasn’t played for 9 months 🤣

I can't believe the majority on here are tbh! Guess there's nothing to lose though

Fairly positive video tbf.

Yeah only worry is not many other teams being in for him, but l just using the prem teams as a example not many mid table clubs really needing a striker currently?

Main benefit will be him occupying the centre halves. He won’t be drifting wide or on the periphery. Should lead to our wide forwards being 1 v 1 a lot more regularly hopefully.
As Tim Vickery said at the end though. Costa might have a big point to prove to those teams that didn't come in, and an ex manager who stuck it to him. Shame we've played them once already! I'm excited about what he can bring to us. Aggression, passion, fight and experience.

Ornstein says Costa move in doubt as a work permit was rejected. Appeal being lodged at the same time as the player undergoes his medical.

At least we have the option to appeal. Fulham got told no appeal for Kluivert when they denied his.

Ah well, it was a nice day or 2

We'd have known this before we even approached him surely. It's a standard calculation, guessing they are assuming the appeal will be successful.

You would hope so.

Here are the point systems for the exceptions appeal

The appeals process is a points based system under which the panel will award points depending on the circumstances of the transfer. If a player scores four points or more, the panel may recommend that the application is granted. Nonetheless, the panel can still reject the application even if four or more points are scored.

Criteria Points
The value of the transfer fee being paid for the player is in the top 25% of all transfers to Premier League clubs in the previous 2 windows3 points
The value of the transfer fee being paid for the player is between the 50th and 75th % of all transfers to Premier League clubs in the previous 2 windows2 points
The wages being paid to the player by the applicant club is in the top 25% of the top 30 earners at the club3 points
The wages being paid to the player by the applicant club are between the 50th and 75th % of all the top 30 earners at the club2 points
The player’s current club is in a Top League[3] and the player has played in 30% or more of the available domestic league minutes1 point
The player’s current club has played in the group stages or onwards of the Champions League, Europa League or the Copa Libertadores within the last 12 months and the player has played in 30% or more of the available domestic league minutes1 point

He is only getting points based on wages and has to be in our top earners to get the 4 point s required to have a chance, presuming the 2 wage parts are combined of course.

After that its

If the player does not meet the above points based system review, there is a secondary examination under which if the player scores 5 points or more, the panel may recommend that an application is granted. Points can be scored if, for example, the player has played in the final qualification rounds of the Champions League, Europa League or the Copa Libertadores within the last 12 months and the player has played in 30% or more of the available domestic league minutes. The review at this stage is more flexible meaning that the panel can take into account the circumstances if no transfer fee is payable (perhaps because the player has reached the end of his contract) or if the player satisfies some but not all of the automatic criteria.

If the player fails to score 5 points or more, there is one final review stage during which further arguments can be made if there are extenuating circumstances that are beyond the control of the player or national association (for example, a long term injury or suspension that has prevented the player from appearing in the last year).

Thanks for that Kenny. I was about to ask about the process. Looks like he should scrape in on the wages side. Not sure about the current club bit because of the minutes played. I'm sure they will swing it somehow.

Players current club? He doesn't have a club. Hopefully that translates to last club.

He played in the SF (50 weeks ago!) of the Libertadores, so there's his 4th point presuming we're paying him shit loads

He'd allegedly agreed to €20k per week witn Vallecano before it was vetoed by the manager.

So we’re confident it will be overturned?
Presume the club are or else why carry on with everything. Only issue is you are in the hands of an official deciding if its ok rather than following a strict guidelines

So to stand any chance we are going to have to double that and some I'd have thought

Maybe they will up the figure with potential earnings? As in bonus's etc.
Seems mad really that a guy who is a specialist in his job gets rejected for a work permit. He's not coming to pick fruit (not that there is anything wrong with that), he is not going to be signing on and getting a house with benefits paid for by the UK tax payers.
I'm sure that the clubs law team will be confident of getting through the process's. It's not cheap to fly him here on a private jet!
