Summer 2022 Transfer Window

I'd take that action considering there's a real possibility he doesn't even sign.
He's only not signing if he's so lacking in fitness (or actually injured) that he isn't going to be any use.

The deal is done otherwise.

I think there's a bit of 'chicken and egg' with the chance creation - a bit. Raul spends most moves hiding around the back post or on the 18 yard line for a cut back. Sasa attacked the front post more often in 45 minutes than Raul has in the last 6 months. An actual penalty box presence could/should result in more chances

Dunno about 'attacked' he seemed quite passive to me did Sasa.

That's my concern with him, he's not played since October. I don't see how he's going to be in a position to play for at least 6/7 weeks.

Last game was 5th December.

Depends what we want/expect from him. He should if he has kept himself in relative decent shape be able to play a decent 20/25 minutes. Looking further ahead, it in effect means that our two strikers will be Raul and Costa, which is better than having just Raul.

The 1 year deal makes sense also, with Sasa coming back (and hopefully not being ruined) and the golden child returning

Cavani played his final game for PSG on 11 March 2020.

Signed for Man Utd on 5 October and made his debut on 24 October.

Was the same age then as Costa is now.

He might be of limited/no use for the next two but we'd likely lose anyway even if he did play. We're then on a break for a fortnight. No reason why he shouldn't be able to play a decent part in October, all he has to do is train for 3-4 weeks. It's all down to whether he's looked after himself properly in the interim.

Less of an issue than recovering from ACL. Jonny came in and played immediately twice. 4 weeks is basically a pre season and he will be fine to go.

Last line says it all though doesn't it, cavani keeps himself in top shape, Costa doesn't look like he does.

I for one is actually quite excited and the club deserves credit for acting so swiftly. Yes, it may be a dud, and yes, we have have been in talks behind the scenes before injury, but credit where credits due.

Really hoping he does make an impact, no reason why we shouldn’t still be looking top
Half finish, even with Mr Lage in charge.

I’m also not as apprehensive about the next 2 games, can see us picking up a draw at least - and West Ham/chelsea games aren’t as concerning as they would’ve been last season

I mean most likely he will not be anywhere near the level he once was, nor to properly lead our forward line but at least it should be quite amusing having someone like him on our team!

Imagine if you'd said in 16-17 he'd sign for us one day. Didn't he score?

Yeah, right at the end. Pedro scored the first. We actually played alright.

Just watched the highlights. Saville really should score I think.

Some classic defending from Edwards and then Doc for those goals

That when he hit the inside of the post?
Yeah. I guess he's a little unfortunate but he just catches it with the outside of his boot a bit too much I think. Not the easiest technique mind

Tim Vickery's comments do give me a bit of hope on Costa.

Fairly positive video tbf.

Yeah only worry is not many other teams being in for him, but l just using the prem teams as a example not many mid table clubs really needing a striker currently?

Main benefit will be him occupying the centre halves. He won’t be drifting wide or on the periphery. Should lead to our wide forwards being 1 v 1 a lot more regularly hopefully.

I saw a tweet from a Chelsea fan earlier saying that Costa is nailed on to score an injury time winner against them. Loads of the comments were from other Chelsea fans basically saying ‘fuck it, I’d celebrate anyway’. Made me chuckle.

I can’t believe that I’m quite excited about the prospect of signing a 33 year old who hasn’t played for 9 months 🤣
