Summer 2022 Transfer Window

Jeffs gonna be pissed you’ve nicked his excuses for next season

This is how we lined up:

View attachment 5637

  • Dendoncker in midfield
  • Traore over Jota
  • Neto on bench
We capitulated before we'd even kicked a ball with that line-up and I'll always be angry at the missed opportunity. Not to mention the complete lack of substitutes before 70 minutes in a game that desperately need them (even then we only used 2).
Jota had really struggled in project restart. The group struggled physically as a whole I felt but Jota was in a very rotatable position.

Neto had a positive first season but had recently started against Chelsea and was so bad he got hooked at half time. Podence would probably have started the game alongside Traore and JImenez but got rather stupidly suspended.

Who knows had Jimenez not missed the only penalty he's missed in his entire career (which as pointed out should have been retaken too!)

And plus, against a very good team who went on to win it by beating two good teams after us.

I agree with all of that, particular regarding Jota, he was awful at the end of that season, but I wouldn't say Podence was stupidly suspended, more harshly suspended. I don't think I've seen a player penalised for that offence ever since.

It's all academic now but had Raul scored, we'd have won that. They would have been more reckless pushing on towards the end and we'd have killed them off on the break.

Wasn't he time wasting pretending he didn't know where to go off? I may have misremembered

Yes, he didn't go off at the nearest point, which like EP I've not seen players booked for before, however it could be looked at as just plain old timewasting which I have seen plenty of subbed players getting booked for

Just to quickly get back to transfers. It's 1st July. How have we not signed a player yet? (Hwang doesn't count). How haven't we announced an agreement with Moutinho yet?

What on earth have they been doing?!

Your wait and see approach is your personal preference, each to his own. However the 'I was there when we were shit' or 'it's only x years since we were in League 1' which is also bandied around a lot is such a weak argument. You can't judge everything from that prism, otherwise mediocrity will always be acceptable by comparison.

Incidentally we weren't ever rock bottom of Division 4, even when we released Brian Little we were about 11th from memory
Listen , I'm not going to get pedantic over where we were in Div 4 way back then , but we were definitely very close to the bottom of the table at one point ( might have been after a few weeks of a new season ) . Maybe the historians here can confirm .
That was the reason I chose them .
I accept your argument re accepting lower standards . That's a fair point . However trying to move from say 7th to 5th/4th is not easy . It will take a lot of investment , time and money . I'm therefore willing to wait if the club genuinely want us to reach top 6 and stay there and are taking a long term approach . I've been watching Wolves a long time , I can wait a little longer .

I'm far from a Traore defender and blame Nuno for prioritising him over Jota, but he did win the penalty which if we'd scored may have changed everything. I agree after that we didn't really lay a glove on them, but they were a decent team.
Yes he did that penalty . Jiminez didn't actually take it very well from memory regardless of whether or not it should have been retaken . Other than that penalty we created little on the night , their goal was coming for a while .

In early February we played Stockport (year before the day in the fog) at home and were 1-0 down with 10mins to go, looking at the table the next day if we had lost that game we would have been 3rd bottom as it was we scored 3 in the last 10minutes and that was the start of the run where we lost 1 for the rest of the season and finished 4th. That was lowest we were.

Staying in the top 10 looks a task atm mate, nevermind trying to break into the top 6!

Regardless of whether we're looking to be competitive in the PL, avoid relegation, get promoted from the Champ or League One, if fans can see regression and poor decision-making over a fair chunk of time, they're gonna point it out.

Not sure 'do everything worse' is much of a long term approach, either

I don’t think the issue is we haven’t progressed up the league position wise. As mentioned, breaking the top 6 is extremely difficult. If people have that as a realistic expectation then they’re deluded and silly. Without mega billions team don’t do that consistently. I don’t think it is unreasonable to have held hopes of us solidifying a top 10 position, whilst continually strengthening the squad, or at least looking to. We seem to be going backwards, not even stagnating, or in neutral. We’re in reverse.

I’ve always been a let’s wait and see, windows still open etc, but the fact of the previous 3/4 windows have been how they are then the criticism and worry is justified.

If the previous windows had been successful, there wouldn’t be this outlook. The transfer trust they had built has basically be eroded.

The level of knowledge and insight on this message board into the Club's innerworkings, it's personnel, operations and decisions is sometimes quite breath-taking. I would hate to think it's all supposition and guesswork.

Constructive criticism should always be welcome in any walk of life, and where it is justified and based on reason and fact, it should always be gladly taken on board and thoughtfully considered.

For some people though, nothing will ever be good enough. We must accept this in life.

I still struggle with opinions that ascribe every success to sheer luck, and every mistake to incompetence though. Even when there is disagreement in many areas, I believe that credit should always be given where it is due. I believe that inside themselves, this is what most people would expect for themselves, and so should also be prepared to give to others.
There is a lot of supposition and guesswork I will grant you.

I suppose our failed attempt to lure Kieffer Moore away from cardiff is because the people in charge are both clueless and incompetent?

I guess the reason we are focussing on Tadpole’s departure rather than communicating a summary of our plans it because we don’t have any plans outside of esports.

The simple fact is everything we do is plain stupid, and anyone who cares will guess and suppose to make sense of it.

It’s what people do.

Yes.

We don't want anything to do with any of Hamburg's squad, none of them are anything like good enough for Premier League football.
