Summer 2022 Transfer Window

If Barca don't want Adama, does that make it more likely that he'll sign a contract with us? Given that Barca was the one club he really wanted to go to

Was told today by someone who should be a little itk that the Summer is about moving players on with big contracts and getting younger players in on cheaper deals. Looking to bring 4 in. It wasn't Jeff so please take as passing info on and not cast iron fact.

That's Moutinho gone then.

Neves? Semedo? Silva? Who else have we got on a 'big' contract? It's a bottom half of the league strategy at best that, but wouldn't suprise me.

I really wish I could shake this downer I have on the club. Still really pissed off that we were flying then the world collapsed on itself with Covid, the John McGinley of the flu world.

Should say he wasn't saying it in a negative way, just that there is a view that we have/can get players doing the same job for less. Time will tell if there is anything in it and if there is whether we have/can

Wasn't there talk recently that we were having talks with Moutinho about a new contract (or did I dream it)?.
Saiss/Boly/Donk will be prime candidates to move on plus Neves of course.

We’ve struggled to get anyone in who can do a job let alone the same job. A recipe for decline.

I guess an example could be Toti. New contract (I'm guessing £25kpw) Saiss and Boly probably on double that. Not saying he's on the same level or ever will be, but a hypothetical

Fair point although I’d have thought that if the manager was of same opinion he’d be playing him now. The difficulty will be replacing one of the most effective midfield partnerships in the league over the last 4 years.

Raul will be a big earner too.
Also suggests we're unlikely to match trincao's current salary.

Depends who the players are before we can really make any judgements

Well it depends who which big earners you are replacing really as to whether it works or not . If you want to replace c. 200k p/w on Saiss, Donck and Boly then I’d imagine we could do that relatively easily. As they are probably already at the club.

If we are looking at replacing Neves and Moutinho at 200k p/w (plus transfer fees) then no it won’t. We are probably underpaying them relatively to the others if anything.

I mean our wage turnover was high in the Swiss Ramble report wasn't it, higher than West Ham for example. So I can see the theory potentially behind some sort of strategy on that.

Some of the thinking on analytics is that wage spending is actually a better indicator of league finishing positon than transfer spending. I get that might seem simple but you do get lots of clubs (Sunderland I can think of in the prem) would spend a lot on fees but have the wrong players from it due to keeping an eye on wages.

We already did it replacing Rui with Sa. It has more or less worked out (your mileage on this will vary, and indeed varies quite a lot amongst users of this forum) in that instance - here or there is not necessarily a bad thing.

Doing it to like half the team is a bit riskier. Not that it can't be done, but it would be a hell of a thing to pull off.

I guess hypothetically replacing Marcal with Giles would be another one upcoming.
