Summer 2021 transfer window

Spiers reckons botman was happy to join us but Lille wanted more than the 25 we offered.

kamara didn’t want to come.

something silly about us having an interest in Milinkovic-Savic.

and will revisit Sanches deal in January.

Bit frustrated with Spiers, really. He has the platform to voice the frustration of the fanbase, but he's dressed the window up in that article to be far more positive than it actually was (which we pretty much universally agree was an embarrassment). He touched on a couple of things, but then was quick to go "but this", "but that". I understand he has to keep it professional, but this is an opportunity for him to call out the failure of the window for what it is. And then, when he is back in the press room and in front of Bruno, or whoever, he should be asking the hard hitting questions. Ultimately he is in a position that a lot of us would love to be in - he has a platform to ask the questions we want to ask - but he's too scared. Maybe he doesn't want to upset people in case the small bits of insider info (like us apparently being interested in Savic) dry up?

Either way, pretty disappointing article from him.

I don't think his brief is to make articles which please you - its an opinion piece and thats his opinion 🤷‍♂️

I always found his more challenging views to be on the pod rather than in writing. I've downloaded the e&s one to have a dog walk listen later on

I think you're generally right about Spiers being a bit of a wet blanket, but having read his article he has been critical, he's talked about how often Lage said what he wanted and how we failed in that regard.

It's the same old, same old though isn't it? We fail to address the issues in one window, so we all look to next window with optimism, only to be left frustrated once again.

This is laughable as insider info. I assume we were interested in Ronaldo and Messi on free transfers aswell, which has the same level of realism.

The Milinkovic-Savic thing is just him getting mixed up between him and Milenkovic the Fiorentina CB (not that he would admit the mistake now)
He's got this wrong.

He's just a piss poor writer and journalist. Nothing he says hasn't been said over and over again on social media and forums.

He goes for the keeping Neves and Traore as a win when that's just pathetic lazy writing.

And if he's right about £35m for Botman then Jeff's a fucking bellend. He'd stand more of a chance getting that back than he ever will for the player he signed for the same amount last season.

If only Botman was represented by a sleazy Portuguese ex nightclub owner, we might have been more willing to pay the extra £10M.

VERY disappointing about Botman if true.

£30m is the going rate for any decent first team player nowadays.

The sleazy nightclub owner is the only person capable of getting anyone who is on the way up and not a kid to sign

Disappointing we didn't even try to negotiate with Lille for Botman, but encouraging to read he would have joined us.

£25-30m sounds about right for him.

£35m is fuck all for a player of his calibre. That's an absolute scandal. Fucking outrageous
Especially as, has already been pointed out, we were willing to spend £35m on an unproven 18 year old… Seems to me we have our priorities all wrong in our transfer policy. And this from someone who thinks Silva will develop into a pretty good player in time.

I've never seen him play so can't really comment, this does seem to be the consensus though
Fuck all was maybe hyperbolic, but it's good value. He'd have instantly and comfortably been our best defender, with plenty of room for growth. It's outrageous given the centre backs we've got on the pitch, and our financial situation., really disappointing decision.

This will continue to be used as a stick to beat the club with. Unfortunate for Fabio himself, but it's blatantly obvious we were happy to spend £35m on him because both Fosun & Mendes benefited from it. Our negotiations with clubs/agencies outside of the Mendes carousal is a joke. They genuinely don't seem interested unless we can effectively rinse someone.
