Southampton (H) 19/10 Build-Up & Match Thread

My replay showed earlier in the buildup at first so I thought that that was what was called. He was marginally offside.

This is fucking bullshit man. Im fucking sick of this shit we get fucksd over every week. Cutrone is supposedly a few milimeters offside? Is the ref using his dick to measure, because that distance has to be microscopic

Imagine wanting this shit in our game. It’s fucking bullshit. Fuck off.

Cutrone was indeed offside, so its fair that the goal was disallowed. Sucks to be us though. It is what it is. We need to batter them some more and get a good goal in.

No it isn't fair. That rule was never bought in to rule out goals where the striker gains no advantage. They are actively looking for reasons to rule out goals and it is spoiling the game.

Mate if they scored that, id be pissed off if their goal was disallowed too. Var has to be used if there is a genuine question of something, viewing everything two minutes before the goal and making sure everything is by the rules by using a robot to count fucking millimeters in a replay, which a human cannot do, is not in the spirit of the game. Fucking millimeters, is this what the sport has come down to?

announcers said ref booked for deliberate handball

seems harsh if so

If there's a struggle I expect it to me more like Newcastle away last year. Stubborn opposition defending very deep, covering the full width of the pitch to stop Neves and Coady using the big switch to change the route of attack.

If that's how it plays out then Traore might turn out to be pivotal, his ability 1v1 could be the difference in making something happen opposed to players looking for spaces which just aren't available.

This is generally how it has turned out. Though Bertrand has got very tight to Traore when he can. Think we need to go 343 with Traore and Doc working together down that side.

We’ve played okay, well in some periods where we have moved the ball quickly.

Neves and Donck in possession have been poor. Don’t think Ruben has dropped too deep that often just when they pressed him he’s been slack. They set traps like that well but he’s got to be ready for it.

Redmond is pulling out to the left a lot (for obvious reasons) but we’ve dealt with the threat OK. Vallejo looked really nervous early on but he’s done ok I think.

Cutrone working really hard, him and Jimenez has potential to be a good partnership IMO (think anybody would enjoy playing with Raul tbh). That said, could really do with Diogo on the pitch. Can see Cutrone and Donck/Neves coming off for Doc and Jota at some point.

It does feel like this shouldn’t be what it’s for. We’ve suffered twice because of that now. But if it’s offside nothing we can do about it I guess, sadly. Southampton didn’t even contest it!

We've not been at our best at both ends so far and struggled to really get going. Cutrone especially is struggling to link up with anyone.

Donk hasn't been much good, and Traore's not done much either.

I'd like to see Doc and Jota on (for Donk/Cutrone) and go 3-4-3.

More so, if he was offside, why didnt they blow the whistle?? What happens if they brought down raul and they blew a straight red and a penalty, would they then go back and disallow the penalty and revert the red card?

Except when Everton score against wolves. They didn't check that fucker with the same gusto!

A) The assistant didn't flag because he either didn't think it was off or wasn't sure. They are encouraged to leave it to VAR if it's tight.

B) No because Jimenez wouldn't have scored so the handball wouldn't have mattered. The ref would blow for a penalty. He'd only red card the player if he felt it wasn't a genuine challenge for the ball, otherwise it's a yellow. VAR would then check the penalty.

doherty coming in for neves

Vallejo is a sham. We need to get a good centre back in January.

Vallejo needs to be binned never to return. Absolutely atrocious.
