Sheff Utd 2-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

So no footballers are calculating, simulate or attention seek?
When have i said that some aren’t or don’t do that? People in all walks of life are unfortunately.

My point is attributing him crying as being attention seeking, disingenuous, manipulative, whatever you want to call it is not something i wanted to let slide. You said you would call me out because I’m attributing it to real life mental health issues, well guess what, that’s exactly what is said to some people that are struggling. You’re attention seeking! Why you crying? They’re just crying for attention?

It’s why men’s mental health/mental wellbeing is such a massive thing right now. I appreciate you probably didn’t even consider what affect it could have (hope that doesn’t sound too condescending) but that’s a massive reason as to why men don’t open up, keep things bottled up and don’t seek that support and help. Imagine crying in front of someone, never mind millions and the first thought of others is that you’re attention seeking, it’s crushing. So I’d rather take his reaction as genuine unless someone has proof it wasn’t.

I’m done with the conversation now, it’s derailed the thread from the game.

Are you accusing Silva of this?

Just using the terms Slink was using.

Attention seeking, well that's how it looked to me live.

The rest, neither you, me or Slink know for sure. So not sure what the high horses and mental health card-playing is for.

It's hardly like footballers never pull weird performative stuff on the pitch.

I think it's important we don't get blinded by VAR today, the penalty is another shitshow but groundhog day again with chances going begging and poor/no responses from the bench when Sheffield United made tactical/personnel changes.

If we just plead conspiracy, corruption or good old incompetence it takes focus away from those things that are within our control.
Absolutely. ‘Control the controllables’ and frankly, 2nd half we didn’t do enough

Perhaps just take the L on this one? It's only happened once or twice, but even I've admitted to being wrong occasionally on here 😉

Physically he may be able; he didn't at all look comfortable on that side, though.

Not everyone can be Jonny "Either Side" Otto.
I remember him well, and fondly.

Unfortunately he’s more ‘Neither Side’ nowadays

So footballers can simulate and attention seek, but Fabio definitely didn't, because you say so.

I have four sons, am fully aware of the issues you describe, and don't need lecturing on men and their feelings from someone I don't know on a football forum just cos I think Fabio is shite, thanks

Its human nature, creates a siege mentality for refs as much as it does for Wolves. There's a reason there are people who make a living giving talks on unconscious bias etc because it's a real thing. Folk are hardly likely to act in your favour if they believe your constantly accusing them of being incompetent.

It was an incredibly unprofessional thing from Hobbs to do and never going to help in the long term. I can understand heat of the moment from a player or manager but none of his business at that stage.

100%

It's no different to Morgan doing it with Mike Jones after that Bournemouth game in 2014.

It's Hobbs' job to hold constructive talks with PGMOL not pretend he's a Roma fan going after Taylor.

Again I never said Fabio hasn’t. I’m saying I don’t know so i’ll take him at face value.

What’s Fabio’s ability got to do with his or men’s feelings? I’ve not commented on his ability at all. I’m commenting on the stigma attached to men’s mental health and showing emotion. Make ignorant comments and you get called out. It’s a forum where your comments are open to discussion and criticism. Apologies if you feel I’m lecturing you, just something I’m passionate about and more people that understand that for me the better.

This all seems a very strange topic for discussion this evening
Indeed.

We've seen loads of players break down emotionally when playing football, whether through injury, missing a penalty or realising they've made a giant fuck up that has cost their team.

Feels a bit odd to suggest it isn't anything other than genuine, unless that same cynicism was cast upon Stuart Pearce in 1990 or Gareth Southgate in 96, or hell even Bully on his knees at Burnden Park.

Silva may not be very good, but he is trying, why wouldn't he be upset when he knows he's fucked up?

I haven’t seen the post match stuff. Frankly it just seems an odd discussion to have about whether a players tears are genuine or not. And it’s snowballed from there.

I don't doubt it's a genuine reaction from him. He'd have to be an Oscar worthy actor to be able to tear up and cry at will.

Let’s hope he’s not spotted partying in the Royal London this evening for someone’s birthday.

GON knows we were shit second half and pretty much says we need to take away the chance of us being screwed over by VAR.

Yep and the ref probably had zero idea who he was at the time, not like he's team management. It was probably like we'd allowed some random into the tunnel to abuse him. Therefore the next time I'm reffing Wolves "fuck em" not gonna deliberately go out and screw them but if they give me the opportunity to do so then that's on them. Human nature.
