Scottish Independence watch

Wow, that speech of Gordon Brown's was truly magnificent and from the heart. 100 times better than Salmon's smug namecalling, Tommy Sheridan's Naziesque ranting or David Cameron's smarmy insincerity. Throughout this whole campaign, the best orators I have heard in terms of intelligence, delivery, passion have been Gordon Brown and George Galloway. The No Campaign should have been lead by both from the start and tomorrow's result would have been in no doubt.

Still think and hope they vote No

According to Twitter some bookies are already paying out on a "No" vote. I don't have a strong opinion either way on Scottish independence to be honest - if it's a "No" nothing really changes in any significant way and Scottish shares/GBP-based currency pairings rocket; if it's a "Yes" we don't have to suffer any more Labour governments and take another step towards leaving the EU and reconnecting with growing economies in the anglosphere.

As I demonstrated earlier in the thread, do not expect yes to mean labour can no longer win Westminster.

Whichever way the vote goes the union will be forever changed.

Though I expect the no campaign to be the victor.

What on earth is the Anglosphere?

I just hope Glasgowwolf is safe today in the War Zone that is Scotland #prayforGW #staysafe

and the Polling Stations are now open! You have until 10pm to get your vote cast Glasgow and Lycan.....Make them count ;)

I think it'll be a lot closer than the bookies think, this will all fall down to the undecided few IMO. Whilst it's a huge day for Scotland it's a big day for the rest of us who live in the UK.

I think Glasgow Wolf has been exaggerating the whole violence/thuggery/threatening side of things.
In the many hours of coverage there must have been on this, I've heard practically no mention of any of it. Only a few blokes turning up at the BBC making a noisy fuss.
One bloke brought it up and it was (obviously) patted down as 'when you get so many people involved in an emotive event such as this, you're bound to get one or two overstepping the line...'

Seriously, have I unintentionally missed the reporting of it, or has there actually been no coverage of any of the darker side of this event?
I'm surprised much more hasn't been made of it.

Alex Salmond seems to think that it is joyous, whilst Nicola Sturgeon labelled the BBC protests a mistake.

I don't think that widespread violence has taken place just an air of intimidation really.

Jim Murphy of Scottish labour has to suspend his 100 streets in 100 days because of abuse he was receiving and was pelted with eggs in Kirkcaldy.
Ed Milliband had to cancel his rally in Edinburgh due to abuse from yes campaigners.

Love these quotes. Coincidently passed through Ecclefechan just 3 weeks ago

"The polling station at Ecclefechan community centre in Dumfries and Galloway was doing brisk business from the off. The first voter, a man in his 60s, looked ecstatic, refusing to give his name but saying simply: “This is history in the making – I’ll no’ see the benefit of it, mind.”

Factory worker Scott Stewart, 24, followed. On his way in, he said he was a yes: “I think we will be better off on our own.” But for those who are hoping that apathy has died in Scotland with the referendum, Stewart added: “This is the first time I’ve ever voted and it will be the last. I don’t understand politics.”

An English couple in their 50s arrived excitedly just after 7am. They refused to be named or photographed: “Because we’re voting yes and all of our family think we are a no.” A man in a van said he was “nervous if it goes the wrong way.My wife says she’s back off down to England if it’s a no.” He paused. “I’m no’ sure if that’s a good or a bad thing. But I’ll miss her.”

Best quote of the campaign so far came courtesy of my daughter this morning, when Salmond's mug appeared on the telly:

"Daddy - that man looks like the fat controller from Thomas. What's wrong with his face?"

I'm stopping up past Inverness, and everyone here is fed up with the bickering and divisiveness - mind you, there's still going to be pretty much half of the population disappointed come Friday morning.

Where Jabba? I was in Dornoch between Christmas and New Year last year.

Bonar Bridge - drove through Dornoch two days ago - saw Salmon (not Salmond) leaping up the Falls of Shin yesterday - walking around Portmahomack later - lovely part of the world.
