Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

I don't believe it. O'Neil is the most professional, hard working, innovative football genius that ever lived.
You’re right not to believe it.

It was to watch the golf on the telly. Masters.

It’s a garbage, small-time managerial appointment that is just about the logical endpoint of catastrophic mismanagement since Nuno. Just as with GON, the taking the knee booing / you know who you are singing moron element of the fanbase will give him ludicrous amounts of leeway for being a Brit. Then a bit more for his meaningless connection to the club. They’re already out there hoping Tommy Doyle might come back. A good chunk of our fanbase would rather we were utterly mediocre if it meant they could be comfortable in their parochial world.

When Nuno was here we were outward looking, ambitious and bold. It was everything I’d dreamed for my club. The tossers in the media hated us and continued to dislike him because he didn’t give a shit about their garbage opinions. Likewise with the owner. They’ll love us now, and a bunch of our fans will be happy, because we know our place once again. But I can’t stand it.

I’d rather have had a complete unknown from the Mendes list or god knows where for the long shot chance it was someone with a spark of ability and leadership. At least they’d have gone at the end of a desperate season and we could have tried to appoint a genuinely talented, high-potential coach. Haha, imagine! We’re now locked into mediocrity regardless of the complete shambles that the remainder of this season will be. Outside of his Wolves connection Edwards just seems to be more or less the same as GON in terms of ability and self-promotion to me. The reasons for the change he’s choosing to make are economically rationale but suspect otherwise. Though I have no doubt that the extent of his ambition only matches that of the ownership (‘fighting’ somewhere below the playoffs is fine), he’ll go with us in a poor position. But it’s going to take much longer than it should for us to pull the trigger and we’ll be firmly back at ground zero.

Maybe this is all unfair and he’s actually a top bloke, his actions just unfortunate optics in a sector where you’ve got to look after yourself. I really hope so. Im just mighty angry with so much about our club right now. Not a big one for the ‘hahaha yeah my team are useless so what do I expect’ mentality, thanks.

The only thing in favour of Edwards is that he is walking in with his eyes open - and still wants to come .
This appointment could do him a lot of damage if makes zero progress with what we have - and he's still coming .
He will fully be aware of what is going on at Wolves behind the scenes having family living in the area , and his own connections will ensure that he has probably been following the events for a while - and he's still coming .
The likes of Vitor and perhaps O'Neil would not have had the indepth knowledge that Edwards will have for instance .

It's an interesting one . It's high risk for him when you consider how he has left Boro after only 14 League matches - people won't forget that if he fails badly here .

If he fails he’ll spin it as he couldn’t turn down the opportunity as it was close to home and he was desperate to help a club he has close ties with. He didn’t realise quite how badly we had been run and despite giving it his all things just didn’t work out. History is littered with such tales to account for failure.

You are forgetting that even the likes of GON turn us down. With our current league position, impending relegation, squad and ownership, do you really think we had many credible candidates to choose from. I think RE is as good as we could expect in our circumstances. Some of you guys are never satisfied. Some are on another planet!

Imagine a scenario a football club are paying off three managers in one foul swoop. Oh hang on..............

I dont think we'd be paying off Lop still, he has had a job since and I think he and his team got a lump sum so he kept his mouth shut (of 10mill+) but I get your point!

I had remembered that. I’m getting on, but I’m fairly sure it happened… last week? If you are satisfied then, absolutely, fair play. I’m not, and I’m very much on planet earth, where I will be sitting to watch this guy manage. I’m pleased you’re happy.

It's be interesting if somebody could be arsed to work out how many South Bank season tickets' worth of compensation we have paid to managers and coaches since Covid

I'm away so not following this closely, but when are we expecting an actual announcement?

I reckon it's close to £30m if we include everything from Nuno and his team all the way through to what we're spending on Edwards. If we take a season ticket price of £630 (roughly average from 2020 to today), then we're looking at revenue from 47,000 season tickets on compensation.

Nuno and Lop were £20m, £2.5m on Edwards, so we'll say £2.5m on Lage, GON and Vitor. Probably being a bit skinny on a few too.

Whilst Fosun continue to run the club I don’t see how the slide will stop.
Their football knowledge is truly appalling to a point most level headed fan can see that many of the football decisions they’ve made have been really bad.
It’s not just a relegation, it’s a historic humiliation we’re verging on.
They’ve ripped the soul out the club, neglected the football and fanbase needs.
They’ve sucked all energy out the club to a point apathy outweighs the anger.
At least in 2012/13 there was still a lot of energy around the club to stop the shitness.
Those at the top realised they’d fucked up and went back to basics.
Our current hierarchy are so arrogant and detached from the reality they won’t reverse this.

If you think I come across as satisfied, then you are mistaken, I'm far from it. But I am realistic given the circumstances. Maybe Klopp would've come, Maybe Fergie might come out of his retirement since we have such a great situation to offer... fool!

If he chooses this line, most of it will be true though.
Though the emphasis will still be on the front end.... 'Well you knew this when you came.'
