REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Swiss trolling us...

The result of a nationwide referendum has been overturned for the first time in modern Switzerland's history.

The poll, held in February 2016, asked the country's voters whether married couples and co-habiting partners should pay the same tax.

Voters rejected the proposal, with 50.8% against and 49.2% in favour.

But the supreme court has now voided the result on the grounds that voters were not given full information, and the vote must be re-run.

Top trolling switzerland!

I see Tusk has made a statement that "this time must not be wasted". I wonder if that is aimed at anyone in particular?

Good news for fans of a 2nd ref. Our glorious leader has just ruled that out, so expect a date for a 2nd ref to be announced soon...

It’s been rejected twice apparently. Unlike her fucking deal which has been rejected three times and still remains on the table. She needs to fuck off

Also loving the warning to MP's that they need to pick up the pace on Brexit....said by a woman who has been going at a snails pace since December. Also great timing as they are all off later today and dont come back until the 23rd.

NEW: I Understand govt depts have "stood down" their no deal planning, as of today. Permanent Secretary of frontline Brexit dept sends staff email which says: ""In common with the rest of government, we have stood down our No Deal operational planning with immediate effect."
This morning, at a meeting chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, we agreed that the objective is to ensure we wind down our No Deal planning in a careful, considered and orderly way. That will take a few weeks."
Just a reminder, the government has spent £4 billion on no deal planning, now operationally suspended.
Civil servants on loan from non-frontline depts will be returned after the easter break as quickly as possble. Civil servants are being encouraged to write handovers and ensure plans are "well-documented" so they might be picked up again
...

No deal is better than a bad deal eh???

Secret backtracking from a government of utter cowards led by a disgraceful incompetent.

And yet they still won't entertain letting the people endorse or otherwise any choice.

Just this morning the Governnent were saying they would continue to prep for No Deal. The U-Turns are happening a lot quicker these days.

Now, just imagine if no deal does happen on the 31st October. We will be ready....

No deal will happen the moment we don't do the prep for the MEP elections correctly. I think that is the harridan's plan.

No, the elections are happening. It's all in law now.

The Guardian say it's £1.5bn spent on No Deal preparations (despite it obviously never being an option) and we gave the DUP £1bn to not back the Government's only policy.

Remember, there is no magic money tree.

Public school alumnus and City trader Nigel Farage has picked Annunziata Rees-Mogg as a candidate for his new Brexit Party.

Really on the common man's side, this lot.

He also had a go at "career politicians who leave Oxford and take a seat in their late 20s" This from the man who was educated at an Eton Group college and contested his first seat aged 30 and has been in politics since

Will probably do well in the MEP elections in May. The hard line leavers have lost faith in both the big parties and this is a complete free vote to cause maximum disruption. I am trying to put a positive mindset on this in that at least if we have a lot of anti-EU MEPs should we get a chance on a better deal at least we can have more votes for it! Still, our parliaments been a mess for a while so the EU parliament may as well have some similar disruption and chaos.

Voting on our exit from the EU doesn't work like that.

Anyway, the useless twat can't even register a website. So Led By Donkeys did it for him.

So why the furore about us having MEPs then?

Remain are in a bit of danger here. Everywhere I turn there are remain posters, remain slogans, remain social media, tweets et al. Most of it taking the piss out of Farage/ Leave/ Lies/ The government/ Labour. The problem with that is that I think its becoming a bit counterproductive. I have heard a couple of leave supporters who were similar to me , soft brexit, dont throw the baby out with the bath water starting to harden their stance as they feel bullied, ignored and marginalised after wining a national vote. If they are not careful remain will re-ignite the 17.4 million for the EU elections.

Because we *should* have left by now (according to an arbitrary deadline set by the worst PM ever).

Beyond that, I don't know. A lot of what Brexiteers cry about doesn't make any sense.

It wasnt brexiters it was the EU IIRC?

The EU won't let us stay as members but have no MEPs, that would also make no sense. Illegal for one thing.

So as we're still going to be around past May 22nd, we need representation.

Are Brexiteers still blaming people that voted remain?

I thought with all the stuff that has come out by now they would have changed that line. How can the lack of a deal be anything other than the PM's fault?
