REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Not that we had much chance of a second referendum but that ship has now sailed.

Turns out the Labour Party were full of shit when they said their could be another vote. Lying cunts.

Not necessarily Johnny. The Peoples Vote and the Best for Britain campaigns didn't want to back this today.

Best for Britain, the anti-Brexit campaign that favours a second referendum, has put out a statement saying that it does not want MPs to vote for that today. A spokesperson said:

Best for Britain, like a majority of the country, believe that giving the people the final say is the only credible solution to the Brexit mess we’ve been left in after three years of government failure and parliamentary gridlock.

We believe bringing this issue before parliament today will not truly test the will of the house for a public vote. The debate today must focus on the pressing need for an extension to article 50 to confirm parliament’s rejection of a no deal cliff-edge on 29 March and protect the country from a damaging disorderly exit.

We will continue to build on the strong support throughout the country for parliament to give the people the final say.

The People’s Vote campaign has been making exactly the same argument. (See 1.25pm.)
 
I don't understand why they wouldn't back that. Seems an odd way to do things if you want a second vote.

As far as Labour are concerned by whipping MP's to abstain they look weak and indecisive.
 
Ah nuts, the Benn amendment defeated. MP's have not managed to get Parliament to have a say on any deal.
 
MV3 next week then, unless of course, Bercow refuses to hear the motion (which is entirely within his gift as it is a breach of Erskine May)

A pain for the government that Bryant pulled his amendment, if it had been defeated Bercow would have had to allow a third meaningful vote. Now, up to him

That is from some politics bod at the Spectator.

And this is what I believe will happen. Bercow will refuse to allow MV3. The government knows this which is why it wasn't in the Leadsom speech of next week's business up front.
 
John Trickett states it isn't a crisis for the Labour Party.

It's beyond belief that both major parties still believe this issue is about them. Specsavers should do a roaring trade with these myopic bellends.

This is a national crisis and should be cross party, why isn't anybody in that stupid place getting this?

That should have been the default setting before we even triggered A50 - get a consensus (with known compromises if not all could be achieved) so we stood a cat in hell chance of any negotiated settlement with the EU getting through the HoC

Has the world gone mad? Twenty minutes ago you could have got the backing for one?

As the People's Vote Campaign have said ALL DAY, today was not the right time for that amendment with the Benn amendment also on the order book.

It will be back.
