REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

He has nailed his colours to the referendum mast effectively. Doesn't matter that he says it is last resort

There won't be a general election. Simply not happening as he cannot get no confidence through the House
He cannot sit there and watch no deal happen - political suicide for him
May has absolutely no intention of negotiating a deal that meets the Labour tests for suitability whatsoever

So eventually he ends up at his last resort.

The eventually should be today though. Quick test to find out where he needs to be right now

1) Is TM going to call a General Election. If Answer is No, go to Q2
2) Will TM remove the possibility of No Deal Brexit. As she has told leaders of 3 different parties (despite what her Chancellor has said to Business Leaders) that is a No, so move onto the last resort.

I think he will try one more vote of no confidence after plan B dies in the same way as plan A (hardly surprising as they will be the same thing) and when that fails he will fire in the motion. It is increasingly obvious that all he really wants is general election and get in power. However he is now committed to going for the referendum at some point before 29 March, which is a fucking start I suppose.

Either that or he plays for surprise and backs the Grieve referendum motion that is already out there on the order book.

Interesting move by Cable. The Lib-Dems will not support any further no confidence motions.

Clear message to Corbyn to get fucking on with the last resort thing.

How does that one work Vince? Say for instance Maybot (as is likely) returns with the Withdrawal Agreement Plan A(1). The vote is pretty much the same, maybe the loss cut by a certain degree but we're closer to a no deal Brexit. Would he really support the government in a vote of no confidence? Yes Prime Minister you are doing a great job in forcing the country down the most damaging route, totally against what the LibDems stand for so I am going to support you in a No Confidence Vote.

Fuck off (Vince not you Paddy).

I guess he would order them to abstain.

Last night showed Corbyn has a much chance of getting no confidence through as May has of getting her deal passed.

Cable is making that clear so we don't waste time on this bollocks and actually get to a second referendum motion as soon as enough remainer conservatives can be convinced to make Jez think he has the numbers he needs.

Let's be clear here, a second referendum is also a rubbish idea.

It's the only viable idea now. Cancel the whole thing just isn't going to happen, and eerything else on the table is frankly fucking damaging. Just got to make sure Remain wins the fucking thing.

Hammond seems to think No Deal will be averted by revoking A50. We cannot just bang it back down on the table the next day so that amounts to cancelling it.

Parliament are supposed to operate in the country's best interests, do it then rather than chucking things back to a largely uninformed public and washing their hands of it.

Another fucking Brexiteer "sick of hearing about" it. Jesus fucking wept.

It's a red herring, the entire trade argument is a smokescreen. Brexit shouldn't be all about a 'trade deal'. It should be about who makes the laws we have to live by. This trade argument is a red herring for the consolidation of unaccountable political power and the disenfranchisement of us plebs formerly known as the electorate.

I'm in favour of a second vote:

Two options:

The Governments 'deal' with or leave on WTO terms.

The leave/remain referendum has already taken place in 2016.

Won't be wasting any more time posting on here on the subject until it's done one way or another - you'll all be pleased to know.
Apologies to Tredman I bow to your superior intellect lol.

Revocation without a referendum (while I think it is an absolutely fucking splendid idea) is political suicide for the Conservatives. The ERG would split and probably join UKIP. They would be destroyed by the Mail and Express (which would be very funny to watch, I grant you), and they would be potentially giving Labour power for a generation.

I can't see it happening.

Well that would be the most fucking pointless referendum in history as 48% of the population would be disenfranchised by the bloody question.

The "going to hell in a hand cart" referendum...

You can only vote to screw the country up or totally fuck the country up.

Wonderful options

Tell the Chancellor of the Exchequer that, as he's currently placating business by saying that's what they'll do.

Anything that stops politicians pandering to awful right wing rags is fine by me as well. It's a disgrace how close May is to Dacre and Murdoch.

Taking back control...

Corbyns big problem is that he's always been a Eurosceptic, so a Brexiteer at heart, unfortunately he sailed into the leadership on the back of people who are in the main pro EU, so he's stuck between a rock and a hard place
