REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Bit different when it's a straight yes or no choice though. You now have a situation where 48% of those who voted have the exact opposite of what they want. That isn't healthy at all.

It was never going to be healthy no matter which way it went, a decision like that was always going to divide a nation.

It wouldn't have been healthy either way barring a landslide. We shouldn't have had a referendum.

Abso-fucking-lutely. No good would have come out of this referendum either way. It was a ludicrous promise by a man desperate to stay in power. No other country will be stupid enough to offer their voters a referendum on leaving the EU.

We now have a situation where the side supported by the likes of the BNP, Britain First, EDL and the English Democrats are victorious. The racist element of our country now feels brave enough to voice their opinions. In Europe only Marie Le Pen and the other far right leaders are celebrating us. Meanwhile, we have no Prime Minister and no shadow cabinet as the people who need to sort this mess out are too busy trying to tear their own parties apart. Those that convinced the electorate to vote for a Brexit seem to have no plan of action and have gone very quiet. Oh, and the economy is apparently going down the toilet. Yes, as those cunts at the Daily Mail said, take a bow Britain.

I don't think early days comes into it at all for me.

I am having something foisted on me that I and 16 million others didn't vote for and don't want.

I will not see anything good about it as long as there is a hole in my arse.

Well unfortunately thats the way it works. And has always worked. Hence the referendum questions in or out. With two choices there is always going to be dissatisfaction. Despite that I really cant see 16 million leaving britain to settle in the EU. In fact I will put a bet that net migration continues to increase year on year. The reason for that is despite how people who voted remain may feel they are still better off and happier in the main in britain and working in britain on british wages.

To be fair Paddy, in the last election I voted Labour but had a Conservative government foisted on me that only 11,334,576 voted for

and to be even fairer, at the last election, Pad voted to have a referendum (I think that's right isn't it Pad? even if you didn't agree with holding one)

If you have any Irish grandparents you could get yourself a passport from over there. (Or Polish for that matter).

Only half tongue-in-cheek coz I know someone who is actually doing this.

i've got two potential options for keeping an EU passport. not that there's any rush.

regardless of the calming words, i'd be concerned just how patient people are going to be before they start expecting to see some tangible changes both in policy and on the ground. coupled with the discontent of the minority who didn't vote that way and things could get toxic. i've already noticed on twitter forceful calls for removal of open borders. who knows what the mood will be like in 3 months. that's the issue with 'promises' that aren't delivered.

The exit polls completely wrong here in Spain. Partido Poular ( Conservative Party), looking like they will form a minority government.

Brilliantly put mate. Didn't realise how much this was going to bother me but I still can't abide what's happened to this country over the last few days.

Not the I rate him, but Rhondda:s Chris Bryant has just resigned from the Shadow Cabinet.

Do what exactly? What the fuck are any of us supposed to do. "Accept it", "get on with it", "make it work". It's meaningless twaddle.

What's really meant is "we won so shut up".

Well fuck that. We've had years of moaning eurosceptic cunt sacks banging on - now it's our turn. Get used to it - we're gonna bitch and whinge for the next 40 years until we get our way just like the other lot did.

I voted Remain so your rant isn't warranted. Article 50 needs to be invoked and all parties need to negotiate correctly and both sides need to represent all to bring the UK back together.

Delays will make politicians look weak and see a rise in far right racist scum getting a say and that never turns out well. So yes, we all need to get on with it.

Sorry Johnny - wasn't aimed at you at all. Just a general rant at the message that everyone needs to just be quiet and get on with it.

Frankly - no. I think everyone is entitled to make their feelings known.

I agree with you. Nobody needs to be quiet and everybody needs to be heard (bar the racist scum). Pandora's box has been opened, time for a few good people to step up and shut it.

I agree fully with T Dan.

Sorry, I'm not happy with the result and I won't 'deal with it". I won't say "well played" to the other side. This isn't a fucking football match - it's a monumentally important decision based on a campaign of rhetoric, scaremongering and racism/xenophobia. I've every right to be fucked off by it and not want to shake hands with the 'victors'.

The fact is that a LOT of people made their decision based on ignorance and bigotry. I'm not tarring all leave voters with that brush by any means but the atrocious campaigns by both sides as well as the alarming volume of sheer ignorance by voters - that clearly swung the result the way of leave - has got us into a right old mess that will have rumifications in the short, medium and long term. It will effect me and my children.

I thought my views would mellow after a couple of nights sleep but they haven't. I'm disgusted at the attitude of so many people in this country who voted for such negative reasons and had no idea about the consequences.

I'm just pleased the Euros are back on to divert my attention. Game of Thrones finale as well.

Good posts SLA, TDan, Jonny and Langers, agree with every word.

We shouldn't stand quietly by while our country changes massively and the far right think they have a mandate to spew their vicious bile.
