REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

I know but this is a time of unprecedented change. Boris didnt want to be priminister in 2013 but hey ho. Theresa May has been conspicuous by her absence. The result has sent cross party ripples that resemble a political tsunami. Out of all this good must come.

I don't see how May who had a soft Remain stance can be PM. For the first time in my life I agree with IDS, it has to come from the Brexit side. For me that rules out May and Crabb. I don't want a PM who could at some point use they weren't in favour as an excuse.

Exit poll in the Spanish election, looks like Podemos and Partido Socialista will be the Government. Pablo Iglesis, who has always been a Communist, until recently, would be The President. Podemos are close partners tu Syriza, in Greece. Podemos have always been anti EU, until before the election, but changed to support the EU, just before the Spanish election. Only exit Polls, but an interesting night ahead.

There's nothing wrong with a healthy EU scepticism, but the Spanish remember Franco, so I don't for a moment think the Spanish actually want to leave the EU.

Of course they don't. The Government recieve lots of EU funding, but it doesn't go to the people. The average Spanish person is pooree now, than before they joined they EU. That is why Podemos fell in to line. They are funded from Venazuela and Iran.

I see nothing good about it at all. I didn't on Friday and I don't now.

In fairness it is very early days. The lack of a clearer pathway from all parties shows just how big a shock this has been to the establishment. As a brexiter I am always going to say it will turn out alright its just this interim shit we need to get through. I did expect a few more leaders to come to the fore though.

I don't think early days comes into it at all for me.

I am having something foisted on me that I and 16 million others didn't vote for and don't want.

I will not see anything good about it as long as there is a hole in my arse.

However more people ARE getting what they want and that's how democracy works.
Bit different when it's a straight yes or no choice though. You now have a situation where 48% of those who voted have the exact opposite of what they want. That isn't healthy at all.

Maybe over half of England had something foisted on them, for 40 years, which they never voted for, Paddy. The Stay campaign had all the big hitters behind them, including Obama, IMF, banks and both main political parties and they still lost.

They didn't have the media mind you! Some of the front covers in the last few days I have seen have been horrid

If remain had won by 4%, I'm sure they wouldn't have taken it. Both leaders, Cameron and Corbyn have said that's it, leave have won and we are out.

It wouldn't have been healthy either way barring a landslide. We shouldn't have had a referendum.

They had the BBC from what I could see. Also the leaflets and the gerrymandering, with 2 days extra, because the internet went down for 30 minutes. The campaign by the BBC to get the young vote out, knowing the majority would be remain. Then the tragic death of Joe Cox, where the campaign was rightfully cancelled for 2 days. Leave were 10% ahead the day of the tragedy. After the 2 days the campaign was cancelled, leave had lost the lead and were now 3% down. It was OK to extend the registration date, to get youngsters, but the government wouldn't give the 2 days back for the cancellation due to the tragedy. Leave had everything against them, but they stil won.

But that's what you get in a yes or no question, the two answers are opposites. there's always going to be large chunks of people disagreeing. The biggest proportion gets its way, that's the way it works.

To be fair Paddy, in the last election I voted Labour but had a Conservative government foisted on me that only 11,334,576 voted for

And I say it's an unhealthy state of affairs. Needless too.

Show me where the public cry for a referendum was say, three years ago. This was Tory internal management bizarrely deferred to the electorate. If Cameron weren't such a wet lettuce and hadn't made himself a lame duck before he'd even won in 2015 this never happens.
