I can see two costs for two certificates but only one test. Will make things more expensive if you want to sell in Europe unless the U.K. states an EU cert is good enough. In which case the test houses don't change at all and the whole standards system is still run by the Germans.
The testing we've had done has been quite expensive, but it was only £100 for the VCA to issue the certification.
Sure, and you can see that's likely. But it still needs agreement, and it also means we can't easily change our regs without the EU agreeing that any change doesn't invalidate that transferability. Plus the other way around. The EU can change their regs and announce that now UK rules are no longer compatible. And we'd have no say in that decision.
Taking back control...
I can only talk about the automotive industry, but from my experience the EU needs to get it's house in order. We have three products that are manufactured outside the UK and all have Reg 10 certification. The tests were carried out in Luxemburg, Spain and Czech Republic. We decided that we would do our own testing so that we had our own certification rather than using the manufacturers certification, all have failed miserably.
