REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

And yet with May and Corbyn in charge it will happen anyway. We're fucked.

This is informative:

It's almost like some people didn't think this through.

“The future of Europe is more important than Brexit." Here are 3 take-aways from Michel Barnier's Brexit speech today.

1) The EU has its rules, and they are not going to be bent and cherry-picked for the benefit of Britain. That means no free passporting for financial services.

2) A free trade agreement won't be quick simply because Britain and the EU start with zero tariffs and common regulations. If Britain is taking back control, then the risk for Brussels is one of regulatory divergence after Brexit.

3) Pressure from the Irish government means Brussels must resist the British view that the question of an open or closed border can only be dealt with when settling the terms of a free trade agreement.

Also, today:

The European Banking Agency will relocate from London to Paris.
The European Medecines Agency will relocate from London to Amsterdam.

If the government had any nous they would have already said to all the staff their jobs would be safe in a U.K. version. I can't imagine the meat truncheons we have in charge have done that though.

We're going to build our own agency enforcing the same standards as before, only now we'll pay for it ourselves instead of sharing the cost between 28 because Yay sovereignty.

Oh I agree, it's a fucking stupid move all round. The more it goes on the worse it gets.

It bears repeating - this is undeliverable. Even if you agree with the core concept of leaving the EU, we just aren't set up to actually do it. It's crazy.

Time to start developing a career that is independent of this country and it's economic prospects...

Something to allow me to relocate if I need to

It's not really a surprise that EU have moved their agencies away from a Country that will no longer be part of the EU.

I don't think that is a surprise but I'd like to know what plans we have to replace their function once we (and they) leave.

Probably the same as ISO standards. Copy lock stock and barrel and then change if or when we need to.

But we wont be able to - drugs are stupidly expensive to develop so we're not going to make one variant for UK rules and another for EU rules. So we'll keep the same rules. Only we'll pay to certify them ourselves, then pay to have the EU certify them again. Yay.

I'm currently having our products EU regulation 10 tested for Type Approval.

When we leave the EU, MIRA won't change the way they test the products, so I would guess that the test reports will still be valid and it will just need the VCA to issue a different certificate.

I can see two costs for two certificates but only one test. Will make things more expensive if you want to sell in Europe unless the U.K. states an EU cert is good enough. In which case the test houses don't change at all and the whole standards system is still run by the Germans.

Sure, and you can see that's likely. But it still needs agreement, and it also means we can't easily change our regs without the EU agreeing that any change doesn't invalidate that transferability. Plus the other way around. The EU can change their regs and announce that now UK rules are no longer compatible. And we'd have no say in that decision.

Taking back control...

Yep, ceding control to the Germans or doubling the cost of testing products. I remember somebody saying this was good for business somewhere.

Turns out that was bollocks, who'd a thunk it.
