Macron “There is not a French culture. There is a culture in France, and it is diverse.”

Every city will become like New York. But if I wanted to enjoy Moroccan culture I'd still want to go to Marrakech, not Paris and hope Marrakech doesn't become like New York. Maybe the culture is out there off the beaten track away from the buildings with PWC or Ernst Young emblazoned all over them. Cities, apart from the landmarks don't really amount to much. Does culture exist? did it ever exist or is it just something that's been diluted over the years. Have we been sold our own delusion as an illusion?

Macron on brexit - the last sentence nails it

What a load of nationalistic bollocks

The current model for Brexit (on our side) is one made exclusively of jingoism, a spirit of "we're Britain, we'll be ok, of course we will", nostalgia for a time which never existed and puffed-up, misplaced posturing. I don't think the UK is in a position to be pointing fingers at others in that respect.

Sorry don't agree. Who is being jingoistic? If anyone has shown that, it is Juncker and Macron.

Macron's speech is full of inaccuracies and I think he will come to regret some of the terminology he has used.

For the record, it is the EU we are leaving, not Europe.

Ok, Boris for one, and he's no longer in the position where it can be written off as "BoJo's gonna BoJo", he's the Foreign Secretary.

Macron is French President (nearly).

What's Boris said? I thought he'd been quiet on the EU since he became FSec.

Youssef Zaghba was placed onto a schengen europe wide terror watch list by Italian forces.
As a result of brexit, are we likely to lose access to such a resource that could be used to combat terrorism?

You would have thought the Italians would have locked him up when they found him with an ISIS usb stick.

Having an opinion, no matter how appalling it is, should not lead someone to be locked up otherwise you'd be in solitary confinement in a high security prison.

There are going to be many people who believe in ISIS ideology but very few of them will convert this into an act of terrorism. Rather than the trite "lock 'em up or send 'em home' response we need to look at ways in which we can engage with these people and disavow them of their radical beliefs. If we can do that then we may also be able to prevent some of the very few who go from radicalised thought to radicalised action.

Not sure what your point is. They had insufficient evidence to charge him with a criminal act, so they placed him on a watch list.

Will the UK lose access to such a watch list?

That is bollocks. He was trying to go to Syria and was caught with terrorist material on his telephone. He should have been locked up, before he came to the UK, then he wouldn't have come here to help slaughter innocent unarmed people.
