REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Much like Switzerland and Norway I would think, but then you'd have to subscribe to freedom of movement too and Brexiteers want to control that. Those two things are not compatible or controllable.

Also those two countries have a deal with the EU not the individual countries that border them.

Again tell my why that would not work for northern Ireland?

It isn't the way it works at all. The EU negotiates and creates as a bloc and then the countries must bring that law into its own legislation. You can't just flaunt the decision with the enacting legislation. That is nonsensical.

I actually look forward to seeing some of these fantasy negotiations collapse. Then people might actually learn.

Me too. Lawyers need to bed challenged and laws or treaties need tyo have interpretation challenged too

Yes and my idea the border would still be an open one with and Ireland exemption hence why I can't see why it's against a treaty

BECAUSE YOU CANNOT TREAT IRELAND DIFFERENTLY.

HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU WANT ME TO BLOODY SAY IT?

What about the "insert EU country" nationals who fly into Dublin, get a bus to Belfast and fly into the mainland? We would need "extreme vetting" at UK airports to distinguish between tourists and economic immigrants.

So the precedent is set with in the eu!

No it isn't.

Normal EU passport situation at Paphos. Normal non-EU passport control at Famagusta.

Extreme stringent border through Nicosia and on the island itself between Greece and Turkey.

Totally different to what you suggest.

Make Paphos and Famagusta the same and you either disenfranchise Greek Cypriots or let all of Turkey in to the borders.

Guys I am really not trying to be awkward! I am not a politician and don't confess to know everything but do believe we must think outside the box on brexit or it will be a huge opportunity missed

Actually completely opposite to what I suggest which makes it plausible. No issue in Ireland for Irish citizens north or south moving as they please unlike cyprus

As we currently have at airport's for non EU nationals. Problem?

They are on a DOMESTIC FLIGHT. You cannot have passport control in the same way for that.

Please explain. This tree has ears. You just are not communicating to the tree effectively

Exactly the opposite!
The precedent in Cyprus is a hard land border between the two nations that share the island. No integration between the EU and non-EU sides at all.

You're proposing the opposite, for which there is no precedent, you're basically kicking NI out of the UK and using it as some sort of buffer zone outside of the border. That simply would not be tolerated.

Beat me too it. Sharp tonight Paddy. Cyber's asking to change the layout of every single airport in the U.K. That'll be cheap.

No. The tree isn't listening.

I have told you I reckon at least 10 times at the last count. YOU CANNOT TREAT IRISH CITIZENS DIFFERENTLY TO OTHER EU CITIZENS.
