But given the likely effects of Brexit, the investment you're looking for is less likely.

It's bizarre how brexiteers have decided that the way forward is a painful option that will solve none of the things they care about.

Hmm, like an increase in national insurance. That went well.

Blah blah blah. You come out with the same white noise time after time vis. Brexit will give so many more options. The issue is getting rid of the Tories. If your man Corbyn had a set of bollocks he would have campaigned leave as that was his personal preference and maybe just maybe labour could have taken a lead in brexit and provided May with an opposition. But no.......

The question that Vis was putting was clearly related to what we can do now we've left the EU and I think that means what we couldn't do before.

The EU only sets minimum standards - nothing to stop the UK going over and above.

Laws relating to illegal travellers/settlements are set out in domestic law.

In my opinion, Vis continues to wait for an answer to a relatively simple question.

Yup. How will life be better post brexit?

What can we then do that we cant do now, and how would those things make our lives better?

You obviously haven't been paying attention Vis. Please see the following just from the last couple of days. Obviously the Tories will get rid of austerity also to pay for it all.

Tens of thousands of British GP, doctors, surgeons and nurses will be trained
All low-skilled workers will receive a pay rise
Big companies will increase wages for all low-skilled jobs going forward
Begging will be eliminated
Improved living standards for the poorest in society
No more migrant shanty towns
We'll have a DNA database of all foreigners
Rich people will no longer make money from immigration
Exciting new career paths in fruit picking for British citizens

Tell me next weeks lottery numbers first

I get that we all like a punt.

But its pretty obvious that at best, we're going to spend two years with the government paralysed - and *at best* we end up with the status quo ante. And if things turn out shit then we've no realistic way back.

Are you really saying that advocates of Brexit are like some drunk husband who arrives back one night to tell his wife he's bet the house on an evens shot at Chepstow?

You can see why people are concerned about this, yes? Especially as, contrary to that analogy, the people making the bet will not suffer in any way as a result?

Unfortunately part of that is true! 17 million were so pissed off with the current EU relationship and set up that they voted to leave not knowing what leave looks like. That says lots about the current political situation. I truly believe that medium to long term we will be better out. Part of that is because I also believe the EU in its current format is fucked! Its unsustainable! You know my reasons. If not read previous posts. It was always when we leave not if. History will show if we were right. If any of Holland , Denmark and France follow suit with leaving the EU in it's current format is dead in the water.

But that 17 million are dragging along 16.4 million who absolutely didn't want it to happen and are having their rights affected to suit the slightly larger number on the other side of the equation.

I can't help the first past the post system mate

Alternatively 16.4 million could be thanking us if the EU collapses between now and 2025 which is very very possible

I know. But don't expect those on the other side to be happy. We are now very very pissed off. Probably at least as pissed off as your side were with the EU way.

And we are stuck that way. Permanently.

So I really wouldn't expect us to have a party about this any time soon.

No and I get that. But I am more pissed off with a Tory majority. My view is that brexit will happen. Its what we do in the hiatus between now and then that will define how positive brexit will be. 16.4 million people need to help 17.2 million to make it positive

Thats the problem - and its already become part of the narritive - if brexit becomes a clusterfuck then its because remoaners didnt try hard enough. Fuck that.

It’s easy to see why the Tinkerbell strategy would be such an attractive line of argument for those who deploy it - one that places responsibility for their own f*ck-ups squarely on their critics, thus rendering them impervious to attack. Corbyn’s failure becomes the fault of the Blairites. A bad Brexit becomes the fault of Remoaners, and not those who were dim enough to believe it would easy to begin with. Best of all, the more right your critics turn out to be, the more you have to blame them for.

My concern is the level of divide now in this country.

Christ look at on here and take it as a microcosm. We have Leave and Remain voters really at each others throats. And we all have at least ONE thing in common that other people arguing this do not.

Then we have the media on BOTH sides stoking that divide. The term Remoaner is appalling, and the papers regularly using it (you know the ones I mean) are awful. Yet at the same time there are attacks on Leave leaders that have been pretty unpleasant.

I look at the future as best as I can, and I only see this result as something that will divide British people for generations. Hell, it might even lead to the break-up of the union.

I don't blame Leave Voters. I don't even particularly blame Farage. He is an oaf, but you cannot argue that he doesn't have belief in this. Nope, the blame for this fucking great rent through British society lies squarely in one place. David Cameron allowed this to happen as he thought the threat was a weapon he could use to smash up his own party's lunatic fringe and UKIP. His mistake in under-estimating the depth of ill-feeling toward the EU from such a sizable proportion of the electorate was crass, and potentially could have very far-reaching consequences indeed.

Well you have 2 choices. Come on the journey, shape the change and make the change positive even if you didn't want the change or sit there let brexit happen and complain you didn't vote for it. I repeat I can't change first past the post. We can play this game for two years but at the end brexit happens. Shape it. Be part of it. Make it work for you.

Here you go:

Foreign construction workers at Battersea Power Station are leaving the country because of the Brexit vote, the chief executive of the development company behind the site has said.

The 1930s landmark has more than 3,500 workers on its site who have been turning the former power station and the surrounding 42 acres into apartments, offices, shops and restaurants. The £9 billion project, which received approval in 2010, is being funded by a consortium of three Malaysian groups.

However, Rob Tincknell, chief executive of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said that the Brexit vote had made construction workers from eastern Europe leave.

“Brexit is bringing uncertainty. You have changes in exchange rates and uncertainty around the construction labour force,” Mr Tincknell said.

Seems like an excellent early opportunity for Brits to swarm in and fill the gap, yes?

Yep! Arrogant prick that he was and the coward fucked off refusing to see it through. That to me was indefensible. Yellow bellied chicken shit! When the going gets tough the weak fuck off!
