REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Why did The Socialist Workers Party campaign to Leave then ?

Don't know. I'm not a member of the Socialist Workers' Party. Never will be either.

I just said the Brendan O'Neill article you posted was a load of rubbish. I can dig out the critique I did of it if you like. Poorly written and totally ill-conceived with a hefty dash of unbelievable arrogance I seem to recall.

And that's just my blog, mor hor hor.

How plausible is it to give you an unbiased link ? The Daily Mail ? Exactly, that's what I thought. I've read articles over the last few months predicting the demise of the EU. Here's one, http://www.pravdareport.com/world/europe/15-03-2017/137108-european_union_collapse-0/

But it's Russian. They would say that wouldn't they, but it's an interesting insight nonetheless.

I would like to refine the search so what would you call a credible link from an Expert or Economist who says the EU is collapsing ?

Jean-Claude Juncker said that the EU could fall apart, but if it does he would blame that on Brexit negotiations ?

So many people protecting their own interests.

How about Allister Heath, Business Journalist, writes for The Telegraph. Too right wing ? To much of a Brexiteer ?

It's a tough ask to find someone who thinks the EU is crumbling that people on both sides would respect ?

Your Russian article is a piece of shit. Nothing in there at all.

Your Allister Heath piece, I can only read the whole article if I'm a Premium member of the telegraph website. All I can see is the following......

Hand over a €60 billion ransom or we won’t even start to discuss a trade deal: that, if Jean-Claude Juncker is to be believed, will be the European Union’s opening gambit ahead of Brexit.
Bring it on, I say: the best way to expose a very weak adversary who is pretending to be very strong is to call their bluff. Yet it may never even get to that. At this rate, what is left of the EU could soon be begging us for a trade deal, not the other way around.
The reality is that the EU is edging ever-closer to the abyss: it is at its weakest, most vulnerable since its creation, and it is now touch and go whether it survives 2017 or whether it is swept away in a catastrophic populist revolt.

Please could you post the entire article?

His "populist revolt" has just fallen at the first hurdle as Wilders got nowhere in the Dutch elections. Le Pen won't win in France either.

Correction. Used to edit. Didn't realise he'd stepped down.

Wilders increased his share of seats by 25% and the ruling party lost 25% of their's. Many say that the ruling party stole many of Wilders policies in the last months of the campaign.

I actually agreed with the majority of what Brendan O'Neill said in a few of his articles pre-referendum and afterwards.

As for the Socialist Workers Party, as they campaigned for Leave, I was puzzled to know why that didn't resonate with other Left-Wing voters and why Corbyn was telling Labour supporters to vote Leave, when up until he became Labour Leader he was always anti-EU ?

You say the Russian article is a piece of shit. If we just take one issue from the article, it says the Greek economy has been practically destroyed, would you not agree with that ?

Yes I would agree with that.

I take it all back, it's not shit, it's a ground-breaking expose of the Greek economy.

And he'll play no part in government, and none of his rabble rousing will come to pass. Because the Dutch believe in openness and tolerance above all, like any civilised country.

It would take a fundamentally weak-minded electorate to totally cave to such base, latently racist people like that...oh wait.

Well as you wanted to Remain, even if we found an article that described exactly why the EU was in meltdown, you would find a way to ridicule it. We can all play that game. Or like you we could try sarcasm and say that Greece was a wonderful example of how well the EU model is working and significantly benefiting its people and youth unemployment was really low all across the EU.

So why to gain more seats, did the goverment become more hardline and right wing as the election went on?

The Dutch didn't have a referendum to leave the EU it was a general election.

All main political parties in the UK, supported remaining in the EU, with a vast amount of the electorate supporting those parties in the general election, however in the referendum, the electorate voted against all the main parties, to leave the EU.

So using your logic, nobody knows if the Dutch are more tollerant or would vote to stay in the EU!

If you are referring to those in the UK who voted to Leave the EU, you forget to mention thick white working class sh't.

I remember one of your friends, Bunny La Roche, the pleasant little lady who made such a classy appearance on QT.

I think she fits the bill as a typical Remainer and she would get on well with so many on here.

There must be a job for her in the Shadow Cabinet ?
