REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

More than likely. Cameron gambled on remain winning the EU vote to finally rid the issue from his party. He gambled, and lost. Then resigned and didn't/doesn't have to deal with the fallout.

When you have big hitters like Heseltine, Clarke, Major and Blair airing their thoughts it gives those back benchers the bravery to stand up for what they really think. Interesting times ahead.

I am saying John Major gets paid £25000 for pro EU speeches and he has made many. Tony Blair a lot more it has been reported.

Whereas good old Nige turns up in the States for free to give his speech only asking that he receive alms and maybe a small hand out from the Trump soup kitchens.

You are a 'brexiteer', so whether you support UKIP is irrelevant.

Me voting to leave the EU had nothing to do with UKIP. It is relevant, as we were speaking about people getting paid to make political speeches. There are many Labour and Conservative supporters who voted Brexit. Voting Brexit doesn't automatically mean you voted for any party. I quite often posted that I didn't like many of the people in charge of the Leave campaign, like I never liked Cameron and many of the people who campaigned to remain.

I don't see how it's relevant if John Major did or didn't get paid for what he said yesterday. He has pro-EU views and he voiced them. Debate the content not fripperies around the edge.

Genuine question. Politically, who do you like or admire? I could provide a long list of who you don't like, but nobody who you do.

If someone pays me to say 2+2=4 does that make it less true than if I say it for free?

Agreed, but when we leave the EU, obviously he won't be making so many EU speeches in the UK, so he will not be earning as much money. Therefore you could say he is making a speech which is about looking after his interests and not an unbiased view of what will be right for the UK.
He can still make valid points, which I have already said I agree with him, on it is better to charm the EU than be confrontational. However I don't think it is wrong to make the point about making money and having a personal financial interest in staying in the EU.
Integrity and his past history with the Mastrich treaty amongst other bad EU monetary decisions, are valid points, as he is predicting the future of our relationship with the EU, whilst he quite clearly made many wrong decisions on his dealings with the EU in the past.

This makes no sense. How is his speech looking after his interests? We are leaving the EU and I don't think John Major believes him making a speech will change that. He is entitled to his opinion, as is everybody. I don't see how him making a speech where he puts across his opinions, is a speech where he looks after his own interests.

Corbyn, I was fucked off with him for being in the remain camp, however I have since posted that I made a mistake and understand why he did.
The only leader who has principles, integrity and genuinely cares about people. I don't agree 100% with all his ideals, and he has no charisma, but he is an honest and a decent bloke. I will vote for him in the next election.

He makes a living talking up the EU, I doubt he will be able to make so much money talking about the EU, when we have left. I could be wrong, have to wait and see.

I understand that bit, the bit that makes no sense is you saying he made a speech to look after this own interests.

That is balls. His living abilities have nothing to do with that, notwithstanding he is more than wealthy enough never to have to work again anyway.
