REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive.

My hope is that we get the best trade deals for the UK. I don't see why we should be looking to divide the EU at the same time.

So would you like to us to try and negotiate deals with individual countries within the EU, rather than as a whole?

So you discuss how the EU is corrupt, and how that is one of the main reasons you voted leave, but you are happy enough for our government to break rules and try to make illegal trade deals?

If the EU want to punish us, I am happy to do deals to look after the interests of the UK. That isn't corruption.

If the choice is between being punished and made example of, or getting good trade deals, I know which one I'd chose.
 
I wonder if there is anything Britain could do to influence some of the EU members thinking during negotiations to sway things in their favour, rather than try to make illegal individual deals.

For example, could we distinguish between different EU nationals when it comes to immigration circumstances? Would it be possible for the UK to make it easier for say German, French, etc. citizens coming to the UK rather than Romanians, Bulgarians or whoever else, keep the more powerful EU players on side so there's enough people in favour of your trade proposals to vote them through but still have the immigration controls in place for the 'less desirable' countries.

Not sure if that scenario is possible though or if you just have to treat all EU nationals equally when it comes to border control.

The UK know the rules fully, the EU negotiate trade deals for the bloc, not on a country by country basis. We all know this. If we attempted to do individual deals, it could easily be classed as corruption.

And that isn't the choice on the table is it? The EU may well try and take a firm line and "punish" us for voting leave, but we've already heard that if they do try that we will just default to WTO rules.

Now that we have had the leave vote, although not happy with it I'm certain 99% of remain voters now want to make sure we get the best trade deals for Britain. However I would be extremely uncomfortable if we attempted to get them with underhand or even illegal approaches to EU countries
 
Lack of freedom of movement to work in Europe. Lack of Europe wide health insurance. The possibility of our economy being fucked to Jenna Jameson levels.

Pretty sure the EU will have it that we treat all EU members exactly the same. There won't be any preferential treatment I wouldn't imagine.

Also, what do you mean by "less-desirable" countries? Who exactly are they?

The deals wouldn't be done, but feelers will be put out. That is how business works. Nothing to do with corruption. If it is, basically Junker doesn't have much faith in his EU partners.

I very much doubt the first will happen because we need their labour, so a deal will be made. It may be a little tougher as there will be more paperwork, but that will be about it.

UK companies happen to be pretty resilient as has been proved by the recession and how little it affected the U.K. and if there is a hit, which personally I doubt, it will only be temporary.
 
I disagree. We have said WE WANT OUR BORDERS. If that red line is crossed then the whole Brexit thing collapses.

And the economy will be more than fucked up by it. Just wait.
 
Everyone can go and work for Border Control given we'll need thousands more staff there. That's the masterplan.

Tough luck if you get assigned to a seaport rather than an airport though as there'll be ridiculous queues in and out every single day as every single import and export takes an inordinate time to process.

Still, control eh? Wonderful thing. Don't know how I ever did without it.

The big business won't let it happen as they need the labour force and the government listen to what big business want.

The government also wouldn't want the drop in income if the economy has to regress due to skills shortage. Skills shortage is already an issue there is no way the will compound the issue.

Time will tell I guess, but I very much doubt it will happen.

We have been there done that and its not an issue. Those who come here on a wing and a prayer won't bother post brexit. We coped before and I guess we will again
