REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

So is this not, intrinsically, the fault of the Government and not the EU?

You could give this answer to many people's reasons for voting to leave. It's what made the referendum so frustrating. The government fucked over a proportion of the country who are (understandably) pissed off and feeling left behind and alienated. They then choose to channel their anger towards the EU and immigrants rather than realising it is the government (that ironically they are handing more power to) that is ultimately shafting them and not the EU.

How?? That makes no sense. Especially when you, yourself said:

"the governments of this country have not built the infrastructure in place to cope with the increase of population"

Well, the governments also signed up to open borders, which was part of an EU agreement. Open borders, can never work, when you have an expanding EU. The Money that the EU spent on developing poorer southern EU countries, have not helped the lowest paid in those countries. So their workers will continue to emigrate to wealthier northern EU countries. Of course, if the infrastructure is not in place, the poorest and disenfranchised will be those that suffer in the host countries. Lower wages, higher rents and more expensive properties. This is great for landlords and property developers, big supermarket chains ect.
The EU isn't to blame for all the woes, but it is an unworkable concept.

The amount of times that has been posted and ignored is truly amazing.

For me the fact we did not sign up to schenghen ,did not sign up to the euro, did not sign up or wasnt full decimalisation or the km to replace the mile, are all reasons why leaving was possible.

Why exactly?

The only thing making it easier to leave is not being in the Euro.

Full decimalisation and km instead of Euro would NEVER EVER happen in the UK. We won Waterloo to keep that shit out you know. It would be a huge vote loser for anyone to even suggest it.

Sorry not making it clear there. If you are going to be part of a club its all or nothing. We have pissed others off for twenty years with our cherry picking and there is a time when you have to accept that we are heading in different directions. Those issues I highlight are all things that long term we would have had to sign up to sooner or later or risk being isolated from within.

We really wouldn't. You just keep believing that, though. We have been isolated from within for many years. Now we are isolated on the outside. How nice.

Isolated from the outside but in control of our future direction.

We could probably go five sets to be fair! Rest of the forum might all die of boredom while we did though!

If the election had gone the other way, with 52% voting remain, would that have been mandate for 'hard remain'? Euro adoption, kms/litres etc

I don't think in the long term we would have had any option. Closer political and monetary union was always the strategy. Additionally our continued use of the veto could only have got us so far. It was one of my main brexit reasons. I could not see the UK going down the same path as the EU on this so it was just a matter of time before it came to a head. We won't know now.
