REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

As a confirmed campaigning brexiter I have tried to negotiate and fight my corner on here however a number of you have asked what I think it will look like. That I have said is hard to say and will take time. The better question is what do I want it to look like. That may still be a guess but at least you could see my mindset. This is not just about brexit its about the shape of Britain in the future. Brexit was the starter for me to get us under our own control .So apologies if this post is a bit long but here goes

Access to the single market for trading to remain
London to remain as financial centre

Freedom of movement to be replaced by freedom of working movement where you get a job and a working visa renewable annually. On grant of visa you get issued a NI number and a tax code. Your tax code as a non British worker is 5% higher. This pays for the visa system. This removes benefits migrants from the equation instantly. If you lose your job within the first year no benefits at all but you can look for another job. If you get one you must update your visa. Visa renewed every 12 months online. After 5 years apply for citizen ship and go to standard UK tax if you become a citizen. If not no worries but you pay more tax and get less out.
Main problem would be the admin, having had lots of experience of visas in this and other countries I think you might be underestimating the complexitiy involved here - not that I think its a bad idea though

All UK student fees to be scrapped. However non British citizens must pay the current rate.

All 18-21 year olds in Britain would be entitled to a 5k a year bursary if they are in full time education or training for an apprenticeship in one of the trades that the UK identifies as a skills gap. Building, construction, electrician, plumber. This bursary is repaid post qualification by an increase of 2.5 % on the tax of the tradesman or the degree holder when working. No eligibility for benefits under 21 except for disability benefits naturally. If you are capable of working or training then you will be required to do that and get 5k a year from the state for your troubles. Of course you would also get a basic apprentice pay from your employer so you would end up with a wage- not huge but a wage and a trade.
Great idea, no chance of current government doing it though

Re-investment in industry for public services. Negotiate a national tender with a company to build bespoke vehicle for public service and then supply them nationally. All police vehicles would then be one type. NHS 1 type etc. It keeps repairs , maintenance and costs down. Because you are out of EU rules you could stipulate the vehicles are built in UK. Nissan and Vauxhall would be very interested in that as both parent company’s are outside of the EU. Another lever for a decent trade agreement. The longer term instead of converting a car to an ambulance or police vehicle there would be a national spec and design for that type of vehicle much like a London taxi is designed purely for that role.
Main problem would be lack of incentive to innovate in the UK, you might end up with a really poor product (the london taxi being a very good example, virtual monopoly but make really poor cars and make no money too)

Visas for holidays abroad- we used to do it no reason why we cant go back to kit. It was never onerus. The system works both ways.
For business travel it is very onerous at times

Trade agreements to be negotiated with whomever we want or like based on our consumer requirements
Again would take years and currently Liam Fox and friends seem like utter morons. Key thing would be to make sure all current EU trade agreements apply to us too

Significant further investment to be made in the research of Fracking for the North of England. There are the largest reserves of the gas. The reliance on foreign oil and gas is currently far too high. If safe licensed fracking will create a significant amount of jobs in the North East and North west both areas of the UK that could really do with this type of boost. Anything that narrows the north south divide but it must be safe.
Nice in theory, but our governments never want to invest north of oxford

Scrap HS2. Its a waste of time and money at the moment and we have our plates full in other ways. It is not a priority.
All new social housing is to be built with solar panels on the roof attached to the national grid. All long term disability benefits claimants get the opportunity for free solar on their property to minimise bills and reduce cost to the state.

Housing benefit will not be paid in London after a certain date for more than 6 months . I know its a bit draconian but with rents at 2k a ,month why would 15 or 1600 of that be covered by the tax payer. Encouragement and support to move to a cheaper area. ( It sounds like ethnic cleansing. I really dont mean it like that though!)
If Londoners need someone to do the crap work, we should build council houses instead of shopping centres

All school buses for 11 plus will be free from park and ride areas in all cities. That way parents drop their children off at a given park and ride and the bus takes little Johnny or Julie off to school from there. The school day is staggered by school ie. school a in that area is 8-2 school b is 9-3 school c is 10-4. The same with school holidays staggered for any 6 weeks starting from 1st July to 1st September. Again that will reduce pressure on working families.
Cycle to work scheme encouraged to get a tax incentive for a bike or electric bike to reduce congestion even more.
If your partner/ husband/ wife is not working ie bringing up children then you get their 10k tax allowance. Thats right. For all. So if you earn 20k and have a child with a civil partner or married partner then you can pay no tax. No problem. However there will be no more child benefit.
The welfare state is seen as only there for support at times of real need not a career choice.

Now these are just ideas, thoughts and ramblings but I felt it only fair to put them on here.

Well thats it for starters. I dont mind paying a little more tax if we as a country have a roadmap that delivers this lot.

If all brexiters were like you I think we'd be fine, but they're not....

Few comments above, but I agree with a lot of what you say.

Isn't that bursary idea very similar to the current student loans system that you're looking to get rid of?

Everyone's entitled to the loan which covers their course fees and then it's repaid as a percentage of your earnings for years to come.

The loan is a disclosable debt so effects your credit. Its also only graduates or undergraduate based. Mine is for all training for 18 to 21 year olds. TaX code repayment keeps you off credit reference agency searches. The bursary could even apply to voluntary trained wortwortk for charities, charity shops and other sectors than currently struggle to recruit through lack of funds. No young able bodied person should be on benefits not to work.I know the idea will have pit falls but that's where you iron them out

Student debt doesn't count against your credit rating.

I've no issue with expanding the system from Universities to also include other forms of education or training schemes but I don't see the point in shutting one system down to bring back something virtually identical with a different name, personally I don't think higher education should be completely free, I've known plenty of people start on higher education courses that they blatantly were never going to make any use of and most of them didn't even finish the course so I don't see any issue with it being paid for on a loan system where the money is effectively taxed back through their working life.

You can add incentives on to it where you have skills gaps to try and encourage people into that field, can remember someone I used to work with had done a maths degree and could've had his student debt slashed or perhaps even wiped completely if he pursued a career in teaching for a certain period following his studies, think that's a good way to provide essentially free training education to anyone willing to give it a go but if you get some chancer who does the course but never works in that industry afterwards then they're picking up their own tab.

hasn't HS2 been effectively rubber stamped by the Gvt this week?

That is probably a little idyllic, but may be workable.

Interesting point re food prices. You negotiate a deal with New Zealand for free trade and their lamb becomes 20 per cent cheaper, which rather fucks our home grown producers of lamb.

Not if any subsidies for not producing lamb are given to encourage our own growth and that way lamb is cheaper to buy. Leaving farms empty to ensure all parts if the EU can produce and compete is something we don't worry about post brexit. Nz lamb welfare standards are reported to be lower than here. Many would always buy our lamb if it remained competitive. I am convinced it could.

I would hope so, because I genuinely believe Welsh lamb is better than New Zealand lamb. For me it is the best in the world. My issue is that we could see the supermarkets going for bucketloads of cheaper poorer product even more than now because of that price change. I really hope not.

You get the flavour. There are plenty of things we as a country need to be working to achieve while negotiating brexit. Some of my ideas may have legs. Some are idyllic. But at least I am trying them! Or willing too.

Farms are not “empty” at the moment. With regard to lamb, the biggest issue is the environmental damage caused by over-stocking, not least compaction of land leading to flooding.

Fair point. My concern is that many animal farmers, dairy especially receive over 50% of their income from the EU in subsidies to prevent over production effecting other parts of the EU market. Say for instance any UK govt match those subsidies surely they would change the criteria? We currently import almost 60% of our food. On top of that we waste 25% of food. Added together there are some really big savings to be made there and some real efficiency issues to address with production and consumer mindset. Would it not be a good thing if the small independent community shop could be more competitive on food price. I live in a village of 200 people with no shop. Nearest supermarket is 6 miles. OK online delivery is available but I like to choose my veg, meat etc. I look at sell by dates to to get long dated products. I won't buy any meat from tesco as they are the only supermarket who won't allow cameras to be installed in their abbotoirs. As a nation we are currently getting fatter and less healthy as fast food etc is more available even though in real terms fresh produce has never been cheaper. That's another issue to address.

It would also be good if local suburban fruitiers and butchers were restored as well as the city centre markets. It isn't just the village store that's gone.

Brexit will take us back to the fifties so it stands a chance.
