REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Because destroying the livelihoods of 100000s of people is a *really bad* thing perhaps?

Wouldn't they be in exactly the same position had they voted out in their referendum? Still in the EU, but separated from us.

However you dress it up the Scots get 1.40 for every pound paid in tax. The short fall would be an economy crippler. Then there is the issue of free movement. Hadrians wall is a little to far south I am afraid. Then there is the currency. They will just love the euro up there. Then there is the back of the queue to join the EU once we have left, another decade minimum. In the meantime Scotland treads water. Scots arernt daft. Its the equivient of a landslide vote by turkeys to extend christmas.
Still it could happen. Stranger things have. Maybe I won't have to worry about the country infrastructure being underr strain if everyone decides to move to Scotland.
I still can't get past the 40% shortfall. Just keep saying that and Scots will vote with their wallets

Yep, a bunch of absolute dickheads voted to take us out of Europe.

You say that and yet, people were told of the hit our economy would take on Brexit. It will likely get dressed up with the same notion that if it takes a hit, in the short term, it will be better in the long term and this is a gamble most will likely take to get away from England.

I suppose it's a different vote for them now, first time round was all about leaving the UK as they would be in the EU either way, now it's a straight choice between UK and EU, previously they were looking to lose their primary sugar daddy but now that source of income is looking like it's about to hit hard times it might be worth them ditching us in favour of some German bankrolling through the EU.

Interesting story this morning that government ministers want to block the release figures that show that those on student visas invariably comply with their visa requirements, including returning home at the end of their course. Less than 1% become overstayers or breach the terms of their visa.

Could it have anything to do with the alarmist stories that some promote about the floods of immigrant students who then vanish and put a strain on our infrastructure?

Like the health tourism scare stories when the actual cost is estimated to be between 0.01% and 0.18% of the NHS budget.

Stick to the debate no need for the insults.

He can't. The man has internet tourettes. Even on ignore I have to put up with his continual bitter insulting bollocks when someone quotes his posts. Its not just this thread. He is a very angry man and is due a holiday

I don't think backseat moderating ('time to close this thread', 'due a holiday') is helpful either. It isn't your call to make.

I'm still waiting for your answer on how people like me who greatly value EU citizenship should be placated.

Don't you'll just make it worse.

Indeed. So people (and Johnny in particular) should take this as (frontseat) notice.

This is a contentious issue, that arouses passions among everyone. But we will not allow this forum to descend into a cesspit where abuse is substitute for argument. Any member who thinks a suitable retort to disagreement is personal abuse will be subject to sanction, the extent of which will be decided by the mod team.

Furthermore, you're all adults, responsible for your own actions, so 'He/she started it' wont be mitigation.

Thanks. Nor is it yours. However like me you are entitled to your opinion. And opinions though differing shouild be respected. As to placation the answer is 48% ideally a hell of a lot less in reality.

And we're back into 'suck it up' territory. That is the best you can do? Really?

Placate means to make less angry or hostile. Ideally I want the actions of the government to do just that to 48% of disappointed people. It has nothing to do with suck it up . The fact you think that shows how defensive you and others have become. I would live a crystal ball. I don't have one. I know the country is in the early stages of planning brexit. Those plans will slowly start to be published but this was never a box that opened on Monday and closed on Friday. Yes my suck it up comment hit nerves. Yes I explained my exasperation. But I stick by my original view that all tyhe angst asnd despair leading to vitriol in some posts will not change the result and the efforts are better served in getting the right brexit. A brexit that makes us all stronger and the one I campaigned for and voted for.

The fact remains that outwith banana republics and nutbar dictatorships, countries don't generally strip away great swathes of constitutional rights from people these days. That is exactly what May is proposing.

If you think I'm going to be satisfied with 'wait and see' then you're very much mistaken. This is important stuff and I don't want it messed with by absolute chancers playing silly political games.

TBF it's hard to disagree with Johnny this time.

I don't think so. And neither did the majority who bothered to vote. That from my personal experience includes business owners, barristers, QC's, journalists, book publishers, and ordinary working class folk. Why they should all be labelled dickheads by some nobody on football forum's a bit rich, perhaps if the remain camp looked at some of the people they wheeled out before the vote, I'm thinking of the Izzard's, Cumberbatch's, geldoff's, Clarkson's, and the like they might have a better idea of part of the reason why they lost the vote.
But thank God they all decided to get involved I say.
Shame they couldn't have got a few more 'celebrities' involved, the out vote would have been even higher.
