Rangers

Wolves. 100%. No competition atm.

Rangers have 1 or 2 handy players but otherwise that squad would fade into mid table mediocrity if you dumped it in League 1. They will definitely but up the top end of the table next season but they'll have a real fight on their hands to get out of the Championship IMO.

How on earth? Good lord, that is a staggering amount for what is effectively park football.

Throughout their time in the bottom two tiers they've still had the second highest wage bill in Scottish football. They saw fit to sign Steve Simonsen on a couple of grand a week for this season purely to sit on the bench, could have just used their own young keeper who they already owned and already had contracted but no, sign an old journeyman and loan the kid out.

McCoist carries the can for a lot of it.

I think while fans like McCoist for his playing days - they really want him sacked. They had an opportunity (like us in someways) to start again fresh, and bring through young players and develop a style. He is pretty hopeless and the football isn't great

The way Rangers are going, they will be lucky to stay in business. Have they learnt nothing from their financial problems from a couple of years ago.

Depends who you mean by "they". The people on the non playing side who have put them in this position have no interest in Rangers Football Club beyond how much of a quick buck it could make them (quite a lot as it turned out). They have also had no-one in place to stop McCoist spending ridiculous sums when it's not needed. It'd be rather like us going out and spending £4m apiece on a couple of players while we're in League One.

Managers like Wenger are few and far between, if you offer most of them unlimited money to spend then they will spend it, regardless of whether they suspect or flat out know that the club can't really afford it. They don't care about the long term future of the club, by and large, because they know they're unlikely to be around if their actions have any damaging consequences. See Redknapp, H and Allardyce, S.

It seems not and in fighting going on is ludicrous. Can anybody tell me what they have to pay each year as part of the CVA arrangement and is this in any way responsible for their plight? If they can't break even in this league they never will.

There is no CVA, the old Rangers was liquidated.

If I thought about it for a second or two they wouldn't have had to start in the bottom league if they were bought as a going concern. So a clean slate then and they are still burning cash as if it's going out of fashion.

thats the problem with lots of clubs thouigh. Rob Peter to pay paul. Leeds, Rangers, Portsmouth Southampton , all have done it and all have paid a price. Unless youre owned by an Oligarth or Sheik you is fooked if you want to win something nowadays (carling cup excepted)

I think the point is here that Rangers shouldn't have to spend more than relative pennies to succeed at their current level. A weekly wage bill of £20k for the entire squad would dwarf anything else in the division. They have individual players on that much.

Took a massive gamble on trying to win a Major Trophy over the last 2 years. When Green was in charge he all but said McCoist has to win the Scottish Cup. Obviously hoping for a bit of income from Europe, certainly the TV money side of it. That failed.

They need to fly out of the Championship next season or they are royally borked again. They also need to sort out the Boardroom, its a mess. Its one fight after another. The spending has been stupid as well, not just the playing side. They have no need to stay in 5* hotels before the are due to play Ayr Utd etc. They are basically acting like they are still part of the 2 horse raise in the Prem League.

They expect to fly out of the Championship next season which is likely but as soon as they hit the SPL they'll be played off the park by the likes of Dundee and will just be another mid table 3-0 win for Celtic.

If they get back in the Prem, they will be able to chuck a bit more money around for players with the increased revenue. That coupled with the fact that their name will attract players as well means they will soon be adding that 2nd horse back to the race. They just have to learn to manage their money better.

And there is the problem for Rangers. Based on their expenditure this season they have learnt nothing from what happened.
