Rafa Mir

Conversely, Bright's game against Barnsley showed what he could do - came on and changed the game; scored the first (with a lovely finish) and set up the winner.

Hold up, Leo set up the winner against Barnsley. Ridiculous reverse pass into Alf.

I once scored a banger with my left peg, on the volley, top bin from outside the area. Does this make me better than Neves? Absolutely not.

I’ve seen enough of him to make a strong enough opinion on him. As I said, it might change. Seriously doubt it though. Far too many flaws in his game which aren’t improving.

I've also seen a lot of him, he needs better coaching - you don't chuck away a good young player because of poor tactical knowledge/experience, that's more of a reflection on our academy.

It's circumstances too, we started off playing him as a split striker, then as a #10, then Ken decided we could play him out wide, and now we don't use any of those things so he's got to reinvent himself as an inside forward or it's nothing.

I'm not writing him off at this stage but we won't be able to wait forever. I appreciate his opportunities have been sporadic (and until this season, in rubbish teams), however he made his senior debut back in 2015 and he has scored one league goal. If we'd given Danny Batth 30-40 games up front then he'd have scored more than that.

There's a lot down to interpretation, you can blame the academy and it's coaches if you want but at the end of the day not everyone has the capacity to learn certain things. Is Bright a footballing moron because no-one has taught him how to do it properly or because he just doesn't understand how to play?

Bright will never have better coaches than he has now. They seem to rate him highly as he's got quite a lot of game time either side of his injury.

It’s not his tactical knowledge that is the biggest problem really. It’s his lack of basic skills. His finishing is horrendous. He’s not showing any signs of improving that (like Jarvis did, very limited footballer but it did improve, but it was never going to be good as he always going to lack the basic skill). Same with Danny Batth, you can have the best coaches in the world, but he’s still going to shank it out of play, as he just doesn’t have it in his locker.

We’re having the same discussions about him now as we had a couple of years a go. Nothing is changing. I don’t expect it to in future either.

Not sure how much time Bright has missed this season through injury, but if we accept that he is getting better coaching than he has previously it doesn't show yet

Maybe he isn't going to make it at a higher level

Bright needs a year on loan for me.

But as I say, that's the easy answer. Where, where are we going to ask his loaning club to play him, what do we want him to be, is he going to get the game time.

Just sending players out on loan and hoping it sorts itself out evidently does not work.

I think we bought Mir just in case we couldn't get a decent loan striker in January.

We got Afobe in at the very last minute which I think meant Mir was extra to requirements, and I think that is where he is now.

Agree.

Also easy to forget he was had a good start to the season, keeping out Cav for a fair amount of time. I'm quite happy for him to be in the squad come the start of the season as I don't anticipate us signing an inside forward, unless someone amazing becomes available.

I'm pissed off with KJ and Lambert (though he gave him his first few chances) for the lack of game time they gave him and Ronan. We were going nowhere, that would have been the perfect time to give them some vital exposure on a consistent basis.

Ronan got injured tbf. Lambo was playing him.

Ken's use of the squad towards the back end of 2015/16 was plain bizarre. We were safe with games to go (somehow). Brought Alfie on on the final day vs Sheff Wed even though he knew he was getting rid of him 48 hours later.

We have come a long way since then. Christ on a bike!!
