Premier League: Relegation Race

On a side note Albion pretty much have to win their next 4 games v Burnley, BHA, Newcastle & Palace to stand any chance. Even then they’re probably going to have to win a few unexpected games.
Neville didn't piece on MNF about what sort of PPG the bottom 3 would need to get to 38 or 40 points. Sheff Utd and Albion need top 4 form from here on in to get there, and Fulham 9th place form. That was before their point this evening.

Think Fulham needed to win tonight to ramp up the pressure on Newcastle, Burnley and Brighton. I just dont see how they pick up enough points to overtake any of them, short of one of those 3 losing nearly every game for the rest of the season. Sheff Utd and Albion are done

Getting 4 points from 2 away games has been a good week for Fulham. However A PPG will get them to 33 exactly the same as it would have done when Wolves lost to Albion. They have played 8 games since then

It has turned into a really odd season. Fulham actually do look like they are capable of putting a run together. For Wolves, I would look at the remaining games against Fulham , Burnley, West Brom, Sheffield United, Newcastle and Brighton as games that we must not lose to maintain the distance between us and each of them. Just those 6 points should then be enough. Obviously , I would hope for more.

Fulham should be higher up than they are. Newcastle and Burnley should be lower. I expect Burnley will be ok because Dyche>>>Bruce and they're more settled generally as a club. I think ultimately though it will be too big a gap for Fulham to bridge.

All(!) Fulham need to do is be within 3 points of Newcastle for the last game of the season. I can see them doing that.

It would be great. I like Parker and I think he's done well to improve a team that looked well short at the start of the season. Contrast that with the 'impact' of BFS down the road.

Fulham have won 1 game in their last 9. Hardly a great run. They're still going to struggle to get above Newcastle. Though that is something I'd love to see.

Newcastle remaining games and how they’ll view their points will come.

Man Utd a L
Wolves h W
Albion a W
Villa h D
BHA a D
Spurs h D
Burnley a D
West Ham h D
Liverpool a L
Arsenal h D
Leicester a L
Man City h L
Sheff Utd H W
Fulham a D

16 points puts them on 41 and comfortable. The points to survive is obviously completely reliant on how Fulham perform.

Huge problem Fulham face 2 straight wins for either Newcastle, Burnley or BHA leaves them in the shit.
People say the pressure is on Newcastle well it is but it’s far greater on Fulham they know they’ve got to win to just stay in touch. I think Fulham are a victim of the scheduling and not having the ability to properly prepare for this season.

I don’t agree with the idea that because they’ve won just 3 times so far they won’t win many more from now on. Examples of where those theories have gone to pot is West Ham 06/07 & Leicester 14/15 both managed to put late runs together to survive when they looked dead and buried.
Fact is teams improve, learn and adapt sometimes.

They were far better teams though. West Ham had made the FA Cup final the year before and Leicester won the league the year after. They were just grossly underperforming for a while relative to ability.

Fulham were a pretty average Championship team last year and have sort of half-cobbled a team together that still has glaring weaknesses everywhere.

Fair point but you can argue that Newcastle and Burnley are of a very low standard so catching either might not require as good a run to catch.

newcastle will not win 2 games on the bounce. just no way.
i have an exceptionally irrational dislike of them at the mo. actually, that dislike seems to follow bruce around tbh.

Ashley and Bruce is the perfect (shit)storm.

Newcastle are likely to be the only other in the melting pot & it's only Fulham who are going to get there (WBA & Sheff are not getting out)

Whilst Brighton only have 1 more point they are a better bet to get enough to avoid that fate.

West Ham stayed up because they had Carlos Tevez!

Also had Macherano but from memory he merger played for some reason.

So Fulham have pushed themselves into the convo of escape, credit to them as looked a much better side. I know we discussed them having a more difficult run coming up but they know go into those games with confidence, and no doubt the belief they can get a point and it be a huge bonus.

I actually think you’ll need 36 points to be safe can see Fulham picking up a point per game and Newcastle another 10 points.

Brighton could be the team that end up in it. Slightly easier run but they need to win the games they have, which isn't a given.

I'd be very surprised if that was the case, they're in very good form at the moment.
