****POLL NOW IN OP****Who do you want next?

So we just have to buy João Felix?
There's only one Felix, imho. But we would need to get someone that occupies the same space and movements as him.

But that's the same with any manager. It isn't enough to simply hire someone and tell them to plug their system to the team and have a go at it. While most players will probably work, there's always something missing.

However, Lage is the only one I really know. Haven't been following Fonseca's team to know how he plays. His Porto was quite bad, but that was years ago

Looking at the betting, Lage is available at evens with one bookie, and 10/11 with another. If he really was nailed on to be the next manager, that simply wouldn't be available. He's clearly a leading candidate, but the fat lady isn't warming up just yet

We're still paying Nuno and his team until they find new employment. So, get whoever in for a few months, let Nuno have a break.

If the new guy doesn't work out then Nuno can come riding in on his white horse with his armour gleaming to save the day.
you've been watching too much fantasy stuff on tv mate

It's not about the overall quality, it's about having the right players for their own game.

Let's say Lage, his tactic in Benfica worked marvellously in the first season. The squad worked well, but Felix was the lynchpin of his game upfront. Second year, Felix got sold off, and he struggled to find someone doing the same. He asked for a few upgrades, didn't get what the team really needed (that's another story), and it never took off. First half of the season was okay, then it went off the rails. To be fair, Benfica didn't deserve to win all the games it did, neither did it deserve to lose all the points it did.

There is quite a lot that can be thrown at the Benfica squad, though. They lacked (and still do) the will to play, there's no urgency, just complacency. They were treading around the pitch as if it didn't matter if they were playing or strolling in a shopping mall. That's not something Lage could fix, or Vitória before him, or now Jesus. Other things were really his fault though, he should have tried to mix more stuff up, to change or adapt his own system. Not sure how good that would have done anyway.

Wolves squad is great, small but great. But to sign Lage, or any other, some holes will need to be filled. For example, Lage, assuming he keeps his play from the first Benfica season, requires a player with the same qualities or occupying the same spaces that Felix did. Afaik, there's none.
I think Silva could play in his 4-4-2 with Raul but we would need a new CB and CM to play as well as a back up striker.

If he goes defensive he will be worse than Nuno and he will last about 10 weeks.

Judging by his record I'm not sure he knows what to do.

I think Neto could become our Jaoa Felix, rather than Fabio should Lage join us, or anyone else for that matter.

Add on the spells as a number two in England with Carvalhal???

I genuinely don’t know the answer here.
Me either!

I haven't seen anything concrete anywhere, and i'm not sifting through those rules, i do enough of that sort of thing as a day job, but there seems to be a fair few people suggesting he wouldn't get a WP.

I think today you are going to hear the depth of feeling about what has gone on for the last couple of days. You are also going to see that Nuno and his staff didn't want to go, but have had to because of what has gone on. It's a very sad day for me, and the thousands that are on the Waterloo road right now.
