PNE (H) 21/10 Build-Up Thread

I'll be in Center Parcs in the Lake District this weekend with the kids & grandkids, so can't make it. I'll be glued to my phone, waiting for notifications ... :D

Just back from a week at Center Parcs myself (there's good wifi across the sites these days so don't worry about the lack of signal) - we had a really good break. Enjoy!

Steve Martin the ref, reffed the Bristol City game recently... couple of iffy decisions IIRC? (Didnt make the game)
Penalty to them for Vinagre handball and lack of penalty to us for foul/barge on Batth. In hindsight neither were terrible decisions, but both could have gone the other way.

Vinagre’s handball was a definite penalty, I had a great view of that and knew it was going to be given. The barge on Batth was a penalty as well though, that was a bad decision.

Taking those incidents out of it, wasn’t it his general just bad management of the game?

Ref at the weekend was great (Costa maybe Should have had a penalty, but refs often bottle those sort of things, think Kodjia winning the ball helped him out), he let a lot go and if anything that was to our advantage as it allowed us to be physical with Kodjia and Davis.

Awful ref. From Staffordshire as well so too close to home for me to ref Wolves.

the villa match ref looked familiar - sure we've had in already this season - who against ? and did he have a poor game ?

Had his orders to be home on time as well. Despite a crap load of goals, 6 subs and at least 3 lengthy stoppages in the 2nd half he added something daft like 3 mins on at the end

I am somewhat surprised that we have the same referee within the space of a month. The idea of the pool is to spread the referees around, though of course certain games require careful appointments.

Just not this game unless it's to shaft Wolves ;)

Referees should add on 30 seconds per substitution. So I can only presume he did not add any time on for injuries. And silly though it sounds an assessor cannot question the referee on time added on. He can only comment if the referee does not play at least 45 minutes each half.

When it comes to what a refereeing assessor can do nothing sounds silly really.....on the plus side he got his kit correct so big tick there

I've noticed that most of the Champions League matches all seem to finish on time with not much in the way of added time. It couldnt be that they are under strict instructions to go to the sponsors adverts could it?

Yeah rarely add more than 3 mins, and then blow up exactly on that despite the level of time wasting in that period.

In PL it’s rarely less than 4 and refs often add on 30 secs to that at least to make up time wasting

Another reason to question the PGMOL and FA. When do we actually say 'enough is enough' you're not fit for purpose anymore?

Wolves fans are going after Tom Barkhuizen on twitter after he said, "you can't spend £40m and not get promoted".

Don't see much wrong with his comments tbh (apart from the figures but his point still stands). Good job for us that we're coping with the pressure better than teams like Boro, Wednesday, Villa, Derby etc who have spent similar amounts in recent years.

Doesn't seem likely that this Wolves side will feel great pressure because the pattern of play shares the load for when the odd player has a slightly off day personally.

As fans we need to accept other teams and their fans will take shots at us with us regards to our spending etc. All part of the game.

We have had this kind of thing said about us for years albeit the figures were different, I remember it being said many times when Jack Hayward was splashing out. The difference back then was we had a bunch of decent players but nowhere near the level of intricacy in terms of formation and tactics.

If we don't challenge the top 2 then questions should be asked however I think we can all see what the manager is trying to do and I feel confident we will be up there towards the end of the season.

The guys moaning on twitter are either trolling or stupid, whilst we haven't spent 40 million if you do spend that amount you should be going up.
