Oscar Pistorius

Which will be a hearing lasting around four days when the court will then be adjourned while the judge considers what sentence to hand down.

This is now ridiculously drawn out. Pleas in mitigation and then sentence take about half an hour in English Courts, unless there is a good reason to ask for pre-sentence reports, which then leads to an adjournment and then the same short hearing. You certainly don't call witnesses again.

Take out the tea breaks for the judge and it could be sorted in 15 mins

It could have been sorted in five.

Court has been adjourned for several weeks. All pre-sentence reports should have been read and considered by the judge in that time. Written submissions by the prosecution and the plea in mitigation from the defence could have been done.

This should be turn up, stand up, get sentenced, job done.

This however is beyond farcical.

I watched some of it this morning and it was as if they were continuing the trial. The defence and prosecution teams were cross questioning a doctor. Surely that is not necessary. He has been tried and found guilty, so the judge should now be in a position to pass sentence.

Sentencing has been adjourned for the day. How long does it take to sentence some-one?

It is going to take a minimum of four days and then another adjournment. Don't give it your bandwidth. Look out for the final result and save yourself the boredom.

That system sounds a bit ridiculous.

This morning we are being told about his charity work. While that is very commendable, I cannot see how that should affect his sentence.

He's going to get 30 minutes community service a day you watch. And all because a prison isn't a suitable place to put a killer. You couldn't make it up.

The judge has advised the court that she is not available after this week. Maybe the judge is getting bored of it.

So after a two hour lunch break, they are adjourning for the day.

It's the Judges birthday. She is off to get hammered.

Oscar will probably find out in November if he is going to jail (they don't specify what year though)
