O'Neil Confirmed

The argument that we should keep an incredibly sub-standard manager because we might get worse is just so odd.
The argument that "we can't do any worse" is far more odd, it's ridiculous, especially given how many times we have replaced a manager who is struggling with someone even less equipped.

Anyway, it's irrelevant, if we scruff a win next week, which we really should, they're worse than Everton for example, he'll keep his job for a long while yet

Anyway the initial point by Tredman was that "we can't do any worse"

Of course we can, and I have very little faith in this lot to suggest we won't.
Death by bullet or knife; same casket.

I’m not begging for him to get sacked but he’s not done anything to change the minds of those who are. And sticking with the evil we know is just nuts when there are dozens if not hundreds of working managers in the world who would drop their job like a hot coal to get a shot in the PL.

Beale was Sellars. I do share your overarching scepticism though re what a replacement would look like, equally you don't keep a manager who isn't good enough in place. I hope O'Neill works it out, it's hope over expectation though
Exactly this. At some point if results don’t improve you’ve got to roll the dice.

It’s all on next weeks game at Luton for me, a comfortable win and I’ll keep my powder dry for a bit.
Do I expect it?, No.

“Years ago”? Two years ago he was in the form of his life and I don’t recall anyone being critical of him. Many doubters were actually beginning to believe swapping Patricio for Sa was an astute move.

Alright then, 18 months ago.

I wasn't especially happy with his first season, still an alarming number of terrible goals conceded. He's never been a patch on Rui. Even by this stage of his first season he'd punched one in vs Man Utd and had a 1/10 game vs Brentford.

Moving on from Ruí was the right call. Bringing in Sá has turned out as a net neutral at best.

Sa for Patricio is ‘net neutral’?! Come on Al man! He’s obviously been a massive downgrade.

I do agree with the general gist that there can’t be any confidence in us appointing anyone better. As mentioned earlier today, it’s likely we’ll just get another GON. That said, by luck or judgement, our recent issues have been replacing a good manager with a poor one (twice now), not a poor one with a worse one.

Not wrong, they are just wankers. Opta only counts a shot on target if the last man stops it, it was counted as a blocked shot.
Didn't know that. They've changed the criteria since I worked for opta then (no surprise it was nearly twenty years ago).

They sacked Nuno because of the way they wanted to run the club and brought a patsy in to enable them to do that. I think he'd have resigned in the Summer of 21 in much the same way as Lopetegui did in the Summer of 23 if they'd have kept him on

Agreed. For sure, the oft cited motive that they wanted a more exciting or progressive style of football is now laughable. Unless by exciting you mean ‘dicing with relegation’.

“At best”, bud. Trying to leave room for the spectrum of opinions.

I’ve said it before, but for me it’s not really acceptable that Jose Sá is no better than Charlotte’s GK. In fact, they’re nearly clones.

Clones or clowns?

Our recent issues all come from the horrendous decision to sack our best manager in the last fifty years

I know it’s old ground but since that decision things have got gradually worse, slightly elevated by 7 months with another proper coach in charge.
It’s not hard to see the problem head coaches who tell the truth and probably give an educated warning of the consequences of poor investment don’t survive.
Keep the yes men until it’s blatantly obvious they’re way out of their depth.
Lage should’ve been removed the morning after the final game of the 21/22 season it was blatantly obvious from March onwards that he was struggling and couldn’t rectify it.
The appointment of GON, impressed on interviewing and kept Bournemouth up on a budget.
Interviewing well doesn’t highlight your ability to manage things in game for starters. One season of survival well that’s great if we go down give Aidy Boothroyd, Owen Coyle, Phil Brown or Dean Smith a ring as they’ve all got promotion on their CV.
