O'Neil Confirmed

Noticed that Derry only re-joined Palace last month and their fans were overjoyed and think he never should have left. I’m aware he didn’t really succeed as a manager but must be a half decent coach?

Derry took over at Cambridge when I was living there and used to watch them from time to time. He came across as quite condescending and very much as though he was too good for them and doing the club a favour.

Notts County fans had warned he’d get a quick tune by bollocking everyone but that would be very short lived and you’d soon be subjected to turgid football as the deficiencies revealed themselves - which in the event is exactly what did happen.

That said, there was a 10 game spell quite early on that was very attacking and enjoyable, and the catalyst for that was the loan signing from Wolves of a certain Zeli Ismail. During that spell Derry was attracting some attention and I thought he’d capitalise and decamp quickly, but to be fair to him he stuck around and eventually the scenario County fans had warned of played out to his own cost.

That was the end of management but he keeps getting gigs as a coach so you have to assume he has something about him, but it’s difficult to see what that might be to be honest.

This all seems a bit like the end of the Fergie era at Manure. Whoever was to follow him as manager (Moisey) was bound to fail. Same when Nuno went, same again now when Lops has gone

PLEASE don't let him start writing (I use the term loosely)/talking about us.

Always found it odd that his partner in misogyny hardly ever talks about Wolves, not now, not ever. Forever banging on about Everton though where he didn't even play 50 league games.

Keys v Ballbag write off

Bring it ON

Why stop now?
Seeing that we're Wolves fans and the new manager isn't/wasn't in our top 10, I think we should put on our 95% glasses and wish the bloke some luck and good fortune. We have a disfunctional United to play on Monday, their big new shiny toy isn't fit , so lets see if the boys get behind him....
Tough enough start for the team AND him!
Cheering for him from behind a keyboard isn't really gonna help though is it?

I'm not going to the united match, will be watching on tv, rest assured GON will receive my full encouragement from the South Bank v Brighton.

Serves me right for not refreshing a thread after unlocking my phone

Let's hope there's gravitas in the dressing room
When I was at uni I helped run the football team (the 2nds). In our first year we lost a cup final and were promoted in second place. We were the scruffiest team in the league, we didn't even all wear the same colour socks!

The second year by virtue of graduation the 2nds became the 1sts, we were in the top division playing top division teams. As a squad we raised funds for new kit, tracksuits and ties.

We arrived at matches looking the part, it was phycological but it affected us positively, and probably affected our opponents negatively, only small gains but gains none the less.

We won the league and cup two years on the spin.

There's something to be said for appearances. That said GON only has to arrive in his civvies once so shouldn't be a factor.

I've always liked a manager looking sharp on a match day, Graham Taylor was smart in his suit in a very uncool way, Lopetegui although well presented managed to look like he'd been playing golf when not in club tracksuit.

The wait for a sartorially elegant manager continues. Nuno and Zenga both looked the business in their suits on day 1, but quickly reverted to training gear.
