Another couple of chances so might be one of our best olympics ever. Will be better then Rio anyway, never a good thing when you have more officials arrested (for ticket touting) then medals won during the games.

Enjoy RTE's coverage, when the swimmer reached the final, they said first won since 1996, and basically moved on very quickly just incase they might accidently mention her name, again this morning glossed over her when mention previous winners, wiping her from history, even though she is our most successful olympian ever.
(For those of you who dont know, we had a swimmer called Michelle Smith who was poor international swimmer until 1996 when at the age of 27 she disappeared for a year and came back twice the size and swimming like someone had strapped a boat propeller up her arse and won 3 golds, unsurprisingly 2 years later got banned, but her gold medals still count).

She also got a bronze at those games as well .

Smith was a decent swimmer for a number of years , representing Ireland at European and World events plus one Olympics I think prior to 1996 . She then got involved with this chap Eric De Bruin , whom she later married . He was previously a Dutch shot putter and discus thrower , representing his country a number of times at the Olympics , but not winning a medal .
He failed a drugs test in 1993 and was banned for 4 years .
De Bruin became Smith's coach then and so began the transformation of Michelle Smith , from a competitive swimmer at European level , to world beater across a number of events .
A number of journalists questioned her times prior to the 1996 games , but it came to nothing , she competed , won 3 Gold and 1 bronze - all of which still stand .
We win very few Olympics medals - she holds more than anyone else . It is therefore quite embarrassing as there is a huge question mark over it , especially when she was banned for 4 years in 1998 , just like her husband was in 1993 .
