Nuno to leave Wolves

It would say it’s been in the air for a while. It would say nothing about who instigated it.

I don't think that's in doubt - Nuno hasn't looked right for a while. No matter how awfully we've played the last three seasons you wouldn't say we'd played without an identity until this season.

A few pints in the London then strolling into the South Bank to watch Leo Bonatini parachute in and sore the winner against 'Boro seems like five minutes ago. This still won't seem real when we're halfway into next season, I trusted Nuno. Don't think I've ever had that with any other manager.

Don't think I'll be able to watch those vids until I've had a blunt or a drink. Or both.

I still remember the announcement of his hiring so vividly as the moment that I bought into Fosun's ability to lead this club to a new level. They've now led us there, and it's time for the next step.

I will never look back on Nuno's time here with anything but the utmost respect and appreciation. More than a good manager, he seems to be a genuinely good man. That's not the vibe I get off of too many high level coaches.

Nor me. I've never been gutted to see a Wolves manager leave, not even MM. But this hits so much differently.

It's taken me a few hours to even process it.

I'm gutted. I'm devastated. I'm numb. I don't think the club have sacked him and I don't think he's going to Spurs. I do think a lot of our supporters have a lot to answer for, the ungrateful fucking shites.

It's now an absolutely huge summer as opposed to a big one. This could all go south.

Gratitude and thanks to Nuno in abundance, but the why interests me almost as much as the what. There is no such thing as mutual consent, one party or the other instigated the conversation and it's now looking like it was Fosun. We don't know what's gone on, but there has been more wrong this year than the various consequences of the pandemic and injuries, it would appear they see that as not something which is going to improve, or at least not on whatever conditions either side place on each other.

I think it's a massive call and feels more than just the end of the Nuno managerial era, it will also see a large turnover in players, I'd say the chances of Moutinho and Rui leaving are increased. Fosun want to be Top 6, I'd say this potentially increases this, but also increases the chances of going down aswell. Personally I think it's too early to take that gamble.

As for who is next, I hope it is a wide search that takes into account a number of options and not just someone from Mendes' phone book. I fear I'll be disappointed

aye, that may explain some things of the mout and rui going..and Mourinho wanting to rob some players off us to Roma

It just seems so strange, I've never really "felt" anything when any previous managers have left. But this feels different, in ways I can't describe.

wouldnt mind NIck Pope if Rui should leave(hello Cyber or whatever name it is now) depending on cost

MyShitter agreeing with Percy that it was Fosun led. Suggests 3 weeks before a new manager. Will feel like 3 years.

Nuno is a proper gent and his demeanour this season has seemed sadder, so I am not that surprised at the announcement. The timing is perfect too. This is a big summer. We had struggled to morph into something different and , in truth we have not been great to watch in many games. It was right for Nuno and it appears right for Fosun. It’s been a great journey and I wish him success for the future. Jorge Mendes is set for a busy summer.

i wish we could mix up a bit more and not just to go portuguese, they have a certain playing style which is more retaining the ball then attacking..if we dont get Ronaldo

Dont think it makes any difference to Moutinho or Rui. Moutinho would be leaving becuase he may want to go some where else, he’s unlikely (or shouldn’t be) first choice next year, and the club don’t want their highest paid player to be a squad option. Obviously he brings more to the table than just onfield ability. But it’s a balancing act of investment vs benefit. He goes to Porto or whoever and it’s probably a net win for everyone.

Rui has been no more than average this year, probably worse. We’d have been no worse off with some other average cheap GK. I’ll go Alex McCarthy for example.

Will Rui regain form as a shot stopper, maybe. Will he be better coming off his line, sweeer GK or distribution - no. So again, one of our higher/highest earners. Would we be better saving the wages, getting a transfer fee in whilst he still has some value, and Rui gets to go to Roma, whilst we then have the opportunity to get a GK who may fit a new style of play such as better dealing with crossing and better playing behind a higher line.

Baisacally those decisions would need to be made whether Nuno was staying or going

I do believe it's a sacking, I'll be honest. At best it's a "look, we don't think being wolves manager is best for you, we'll pay you off, please just go and be with your family and regain your happiness".

On reality, I think it's another demonstration of the absolute ruthlessness of Fosun. The performances (even relative to available talent) have been going down hill - even before covid. I can't believe they'll go for pragmatism again - hell, maybe it was part of plan all along, get up, stay up, stabalise, and then attack the big six.

Mutual consent never means mutual consent. I think that this is an active Fosun decision, but fuck me is it a risky one. I think it'd take Saunders levels of ineptitude to have us in any real danger, but given the playing staff evo/revolution that was needed...well, surely there's going to be financial investment in the new manager. Asking a new guy to come into what's already a small, tactically confused playing squad, and turn it around with a low net spend isn't ruthless, its braindead.
