New - The things that really annoy you

Elon Musk, the cretin.

Essentially because he blocked Twitter from being viewed if you weren't logged in (for reasons only known to him) and didn't put anything in place other than just revoking access, everywhere that has embedded tweets across the entire Internet is now sending millions of unresolved requests over and over to view the site. Twitter is basically now DDOSing itself.

Almost as if it wasn't a good idea to sack everyone who knew what they were doing. The equivalent of taking all the straws in Kerplunk out in one go then immediately trying to ram them all straight in. Good luck with that.
Yeah he has messed things up with Twitter for sure. Now some kind of limit on interacting with posts daily also, no matter if you have the blue check mark or not.

Tv license, haven't had one for about 8 years, decided to donate the equivalent amount to cancer research, had the knock at the door tonight some prick asking to come in and check my tv. Just laughed and politely told him to do one.

I just never understood why I'm expected to pay for a corporation that pays millions to overpaid twats, and I don't use.

Someone else mentioned similar recently but apparently they don't have any info on what you do or don't watch, just a list of people who don't pay for a tv licence. They come round hoping you'll either admit to needing one because of what you do watch, invite/accept them in and they can see that you need one from what you're watching, or you just sign up for it either way as the scary man has come to get you.

Don't they sit outside your house with some equipment to measure the signal your tv is pulling in when it's on?
I'm sure they wont just have a list of people who haven't bought a licence?

No and yes they do.

Well the list is properties rather than people.

told them I wasn’t paying as I hadn’t got a tv, got home from work one night they were there waiting, gave them the keys to the flat told em to have a really good look for a tv, 40 minutes later, they came out and said you haven’t got a tv.
3 weeks later they made a snap visit ( thinking I’d be watching tv) they came in mooched around, agreed I hadn’t got one, took me off the list for having one and said they wouldn’t visit again
Punchline to this should be I went and bought one the following day, but I didn’t

They must waste millions on households without a license.

Last time I received a flyer a few years ago, I called them to ask if they wanted to check my shed for contraband fishing rods.

What a short sighted bit of legislation that was!
Imagine if they'd thought about how many tvs are going into big hotels?
We have 4**. but pay for 1.
Hotels will have 400 but will pay for 1.
Massive lost revenue.

** 3 of those are smart tvs and aren't connected to the Sky dish.

Try using Google...its ace

Hotels and the like are charged 1 x Licence fee (£159) for 15 TV's. After that they are are charged £159 for every 5 TV's.

We got sky glass about 3 months ago, so I assume they've had some sort of contact, technically I should get one, but fuck em.

Any TV purchased now the name/address is sent off...presume to man in a van who cross checks the database.

With the dealer notification act being abolished years ago, surely that would contravene data laws?

Magic detector vans, 80s/90s technology that can do what you can't do in 2023.

I have a rock in my garden that forecasts the weather 14 days in advance, yours for £50.

He also had a 1bn dollar AWS bill at suspiciously around the same time. Rumours are he didn't pay it.

I don't blame him for trying to limit data ingress / egress though because that must add up to an absolute fortune. But do it in a much, much better way. Like maybe testing code before deploying it into production.

It's the Elon way innit.
  1. Give too few devs too little time
  2. Deploy straight to prod
  3. Fix bugs if they kill someone

You don’t have to even own a TV to have to have a licence, if you have broadband and a PC they demand you get one as well as you can still watch TV on it.

When my fellow Americans post negativity about the USA on today of all days. Its our Independence Day(Says an ex colonial haha) and really no need for that. Be quiet and let us celebrate it.

Can I just ask, how come you refer to the day as the 4th of July, yet for every other circumstance you are adamant that the date should be month, day, year? Isn't it ironic (don't ya think) you date your national holiday, with a non American format :)
