New - The things that really annoy you

You can try, but whether it's worth the effort becomes very tricky. Try to negotiate too hard and you may end up needing to match whatever lawyer the hospital can afford (spoiler: it's probably a better lawyer than Average Joe can afford).
That's interesting, I wasn't too aware of that tbh
Thankfully I haven't been very sick in my 11 years of being here.
We did recently have a conversation at home regarding health insurance and potentially moving back to the UK to work for our sister company, due to higher cost of living...

Number one rule of thumb, as monotonous as it can be; when you're in the hospital, get the full information on everything they try to give you or do to you. As you yourself pointed out, hospitals here absolutely love to run tests and other shit "just because". Then they'll charge you for all the shit you didn't need at the end.

Just human mechanics.

Well I wish we had this conversation about 6 weeks ago :(

Remember getting the bill for all the shit that they had to do after my first spontaneous pneumothorax... 4 days in the hospital, running up about $11,000/day. After taxes the total cost was over $50k.

I was still a "Dependent" so on my dad's very Bourgeois health insurance. We ended up paying about $4,000, all told. Which is still an amount of money than can absolutely ruin your life (or at least your year) if you owe it someone.

Does your health insurance include dental too or is that seperate? Our dental is split between NHS or private patients, both cost with private being substantially higher. Derby has a population of 260k and just one dentist accepting NHS patients.

I needed an emergency dental appointment recently, and I'd have to wait 'weeks' to see the dentist as an NHS patient but could get an appointment as a private patient at the same clinic inside 24 hours.

Nationally it's seen people who can't access or afford an NHS dentist doing DIY dentistry.

NHS dentistry is pretty much dead. All of the dentists are self employed and they don’t want to do it, they can make more money by doing private treatments instead.

The only real solve is to bring dentists in from other countries (mainly India) but there is so much red tape in the way it is going to take years and years to achieve and even then, it might be too late.

Being a police officer is irrelevant, hes a prick regardless of the uniform/badge.
Disagree, dehumanization of civilians is part and parcel of policing here. This guy may have been an asshole at heart but being a cop allowed him to indulge those whims in an environment that largely supports and defends this kind of behavior.

Remember when the NYPD started selling shirts that said “I Can Breathe”?

The institution can’t be ignored, IMV.

People who arrange meetings for 5pm.

Piss off
How bad would you get told off for not showing? Obviously different jobs is different but for most 5pm is CoB time; scheduling a meeting for then seems purposefully annoying.

Our place has started to call training courses “lunch & learn” and arranging them in the middle of the day.
Sounds like a CPD (continued professional development) ugh.
