New - The things that really annoy you

Try the toilets at a rural Russian railway station, the one we used just had holes to shit in with walls about 6" high, the ladies in our party preferred to go in the woods next to the station.

Ukrainian bus stop toilets at the sides of main roads are like that, they are behind the bus stop though, the bus stops tend to be concrete or brick not clear like in the uk, benches are long enough and comfy enough to get a good nights sleep on as well.
This is one of the odder books in my possession some of them are works of art IMG_1115.jpeg

Getting home to find letters telling me that our NHS dentist will be for private patients only from October. I’ll partly blame the government as it’s not being funded correctly.

I live in fear of ever needing a shit when I'm at Wolves

Happened to me in the eighties. Dentist was a Wolves fan too.

I'm afraid to say a few years ago a new eatery opened on the North Quays in Dublin, supposedly a little upmarket, might have been attached to a hotel, and when you'd finished having a piss, you turned around to rinse your hands and (here's the awkward part) you were approached by a black lad, smartly dressed and it was his job to wash then dry your hands for you.
Very uncomfortable. Told him I'd prefer to struggle on my own, but thank you.

Don’t know how it works with those guys anymore? Does he have a contactless device?

Back in my youth I’d always give them some money but for a few sprays and some chewing gum, but I don’t even take cards out with me anymore let alone physical money.

Upscale places here will have those, too. Bloody weird but I guess it lets the kid take home a little pay.

FWIW I've never had one actually try to wash my hands for me, but they'd do things like turn the water on and off, squirt the soap, etc. I guess the idea is to keep all those germs "centralized"?

Nah more that he is doing something for you and therefore you will feel like you need to give him money

I thought tipping wasn't a thing over there?
The guy in the toilet isn’t an employee, he’s just a random guy so he isn’t get paid anything apart from what’s given to him by us. He brings all his own stuff for example and gives you his special soap, hand towels etc rather than just using the water/soap/dryer already in there. Then he’s got an array of aftershaves and chewing gum you can have as well. So you give him a quid, take a couple of sprays and a chewing gum.

As for tipping, it isn’t generally a thing but I tip bar/restaurant staff even though they will be paid the same as a supermarket worker for example who I don’t tip. Also give my barber a tip who is cash only so is making tips and paying an illegitimate amount of tax…

Oh and I’m going to Disney next year and looking at the “tip guidelines” I think I’ll end up spending more on tips than the holiday itself…

It's not established practice but restaurants I'll go 10-15% (assuming the service is actually ok). Barbers - it's £12 I think at mine so I give him £20 and take £5 back.

Taxis I tend to book online so no tip as I've already agreed and paid the fee but on the rare occasions I get a black cab it's normally keep whatever change there is below £3 or so.

Nothing in pubs, sorry.

Don't go to places any more that have your aftershave guy, I'm too old.

What the fuck :ROFLMAO:

It's literally just some spiffy rando who isn't even employed by the joint?

It's odd on ubereats/deliveroo when after I've ordered but before it's been delivered they ask me if I want to tip the driver.
I've paid extra for delivery, it hasn't even left the restaurant yet, let alone got here, why am I tipping the driver at this point? What are the implications if I don't?
